Especially if this was a CPO car, you are entitled to 2 ea KG keys
thanks for your reply. It's not CPO but the car is still under 4-year/50K original warranty for another two months. Do you think the dealer will somehow fix/replace the non-working KG chrome key to work with KG under warranty? If it's a replacement key, I'm surprised the dealer would supply a non-KG replacement key on a KG car.

Not surprising at all John. Assume that the original owner lost a key and just wanted to have a spare on hand . It , the chrome key, was substantially less money if non KG. (in fact, IIRC, the crome key is not available as KG)

Definirtely contact the dealer ( I'm assuming it's a MB dealer). If they refuse to order another key fro you @N/C then contact MBUSA.

Okay, good advice. Thanks again.

Incorrect. There are posts on this forum detailing the opposite including possible PN starting sequence as printed on the key. MY07+ with KG has the new chrome keys.

Interesting. My 07-06 built MY07 still has it.

Its not like they put a blanking plug in the space, there is no hole in the plastic deck lid extension... so they meant it to be gone. I actually miss it occasionally since I was used to having it there, but I guess if they save a little on each unit produced it all adds up to real dough. It would never be a dealbreaker of a deletion.

I don't know however, how they can possibly deal with so many variations of a vehicle being produced. The assembly line must be a bear to manage, and all those different parts to manufacture and stock for 10 years... it seems like a colossal waste of money.

I had to have the harness replaced in my trunk with Keyless-Go and the Electronic Trunk Closer. When this harness was replaced, the button no longer worked. When I asked about it, they said the replacement harness did not support that button.

Yes, but his is MY05. I tried to order the chrome key for my '04 and was told by dealer that the chrome kg was not available for my car.
