Got a question about the new valve body. Took the car in for service and mentioned that my tranny was a little abrupt in the upshift and after checking it over, the dealer changed it out. It still seems to be abrupt though not as bad. It's only been a couple of days, will the software adapt after a while to give better shifts or is this as good as it gets?

If you've got the 7-speed, verify dealer will install the NEW, not the previous fluid. Spec = 236.14

Its not on the first sheet as it is dated 7/04 and the TSB didn't come out until almost 1 year later. The trans service per tht doc was to be added to WIS in a 9/05 update.
The trans service IS noted on the other two more recent docs.

I can't imagine they'd change tranny fluid and not the filter - maybe they were out of them and didn't want to wait to get one in - it's just a drop the pan and change it process - 7 qts of tranny fluid I believe it was - plus like a qt for the transfer case on the 4matic - 300 bucks for all - It might be my imagination but it does seem to shift smoother though it always was pretty smooth - now it's totally seamless -

I changed my transmission fluid and filter at home at 68,000 in my 03. But that is when the whooo ha was sealed for life.
I only used MB filters and fluid. Now 13,000 miles later it is a non issue.

Service C help
So I took my E350 in for service C. The SA said that they were changing the services to an a la cart system. All services include an oil change but the owner can choose what items they want done to be their "C" or "B" service.
I forgot about the transmission issue as my wife is driving the car more often now.
So I think I'll do the Oil change and transmission flush with a new filter.
Any other items I should request?
The E is an 06 350 4matic 45K

Check for brake fluid flush last done. You might need this. Remember the SBC brakes need a clean system.

The SA said that my tranny did not fall in the vin guide line for the tsb but will check the shifting tomorrow. I want to get this cleared up now before I'm out of warranty.

Can someone post the TSB text? My dealer tells this is for 2005 and later models. I'd prefer to have some ammo before complaining to MB CAC. Thanks.

Email or PM me your email address and I'll forward it to you tonight.
It doesn't address years; rather trans models.
It is truly amazing how many dealers do not keep up on this stuff.

End of my Trans saga and plug
I finally took the car to another dealership about 20 miles away. They got a bulletin about 6 months ago on how to fix the trans rubbing noise with new trans fluid. Car was in and out & all under warranty. If you're in STL never take your MB to Plaza Motors. I went to Tri-Star of Ellisville.
No particulars on the bulletin, sorry.

2008 Iridium Silver E350 4matic (P2, Pano)
I took my 2008 E350 4 matic in for service yesterday. The car has 39K miles so I requested the transmission flush. The dealer did the transmission flush but did not change the transfer case fluid. Should I just wait until the next service to do this one?
I know it is listed as recommended at 39K just like the transmission flush, but I thought I'd ask since I expected them to do it.

This is an interesting issue. I have a 2004 E320 4-Matic that I purchased new in August of 2004. I was in Germany in July of 2005 and my friends there got a letter from Mercedes stating that the 5-speed automatic transmissions needed to be services (I think that it was at about 39 miles) because the bands would not shift well otherwise. This bulletin came out in Germany first, here is what is interesting.
My transmission was the model affected.
I had free service and maintenance for 4 years and 50K miles.
MBUSA, did not have this bulletin. No error, they probably did not want to pay to service all the 2004 and older cars affected.
In 2005, when the free service was no longer offered, this came out.
My service book says that the tranny is lifetime. Yea right! Lifetime is considered about 80,000 miles.
I did not want to argue anymore, so I had my tranny serviced at about 24,000 miles. That was a bit early, but I will probably change the fluid again at 100,000 miles. This is all on a “lifetime” fluid.
I had the transfer case and rear differential fluid changed at 48,000 miles. The front differential will be serviced at about 64k miles when my next oil change is due.
I have the extended warranty. I want to make sure that I will NOT get any hassles if I have a claim in the future. I have serviced fluids that are “lifetime” on 04 and older vehicles. I still find it interesting that they are NOT lifetime now that the customer pays for service! My 5-speed transmission and 4-matic system have worked perfectly since day one. The only issue I sometimes have is a bit of jerking at low speeds when the torque converter is still locked. It is not bad at all, but it sometimes (very rarely) jerks a bit. I only notice it because the tranny is silky smooth otherwise.

Regarding the Valve Body change, I had this done last year, can anyone tell me if they had to change the Tranny Fluid when doing this Valve Body change? I just want to make sure I don't get ripped off by someone there telling me I need new Fluid if I know a repair procedure already required them to do it.
Thanks.
Thanks.

As for servicing, I wouldn't recommend flushing because unless you are taking extra steps after flushing to replace the filter, most times the old filter will not be changed out.
Lastly, for the DIY guys (and gals), goodluck on the 722.9 trans unless you have access to the pump to put the fluid back into the transmission and access to an SDS to check the fluid temperature of the transmission to accurately check the fluid level after servicing.

Awesome, thank you! Looks like I'm fortunate to have had that Valve Body change then.
Now I'll just have to deal with the obligatory Serviceman telling me that they know nothing about needing to change the fluid for a Valve Body job, or something.
