I tried to say goodbye to you all....

Maybe it is because I got such a good deal on the Mercedes I have now, or maybe I am just being too picky but I have been trying hard to buy a new car partly because I keep hearing the deals are good and this is usually the point in the ownership process when I do.

So I decided that I really want to get back into an SUV or CUV. There are a ton of trucks in Southern NM and I can't see crap so I thought it might be nice to sit up a little higher and have 4-wheel drive for winter trips. So I spent the entire day looking at cars and I looked at an X5, X3, Touareg, Volvo XC60, GLK (I think this was the most disappointing), and an MDX. I liked the Touareg, but not enough to pay in the mid 50's. But the surprise of the day was the Infinti FX35. It was all around good and different.

So at the end of the day driving home in my car, I realized that I STILL like it best. So I guess I'm not done just yet. I tried, but nothing was quite good enough. Maybe I am being too picky, but I am not impressed by all the technology that I was presented today. I have a headache. Volvo has way too much safety technology. They all had their good point but at the end of the day the only car that made me smile was the 2009 E550 sitting in the showroom.

Maybe I don't want an SUV as much as I thought. Or maybe I haven't found the right one. Either way I just might be in for the long haul....now I need to tyhink about getting an extended warranty.

Glad to hear you failed to make a mistake, at least so far.

Volvo has a lot of safety built in but hardly anything that would be missing from an MB of the same MY, more likely the contrary (perhaps not a significant difference).

Infiniti makes great cars IMO. My wife drives a 07 G35 and I really like it. It is faster and lighter than my V8 E-Class and handles extremely well. I still feel the E is more solid. We definitely went for the G35 because of its sporty nature. I have not driven the FX, but have seen it at the dealer and it is one nice SUV. Now the E550 ..... well, just cannot go wrong there!

My wife really wanted me to get an SUV. I was settled on the Acura MDX - which is very nice. But when I drove the E350 and saw the deal they were willing to make on it - I was sold. As nice as the MDX is, it would always be a big SUV. The E350 is just a lot more fun to be in and drive.

The FX is a great car. My friends dad has a FX45. I drove it once out in palm desert: nice handling, exhaust note, plenty of power. I've always thought Infiniti's are a good bang for your buck. I remember looking at a M45 at the same dealership I bought my E. It was reeeaaaalllllyyyy nice.

In short sprints for sure, once you get up to speed probably not, I have not raced any but driven both, and my pants-dyno seems to agree with the numbers, similar HP (302 vs 306), less torque (339 vs 268) but less weight (3815 vs 3642), so they should be about even. Of course I could be talking out of both sides of my mouth and not make any sense, but thats nothing new
