![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I've just purchased a 2005 CDI suffering cupping and feathering on all 4 tires.
30,000 miles
Has road noise at 50MPH and above
Symptoms; sounds like winter tire howl or wheel bearing
Independent shop Alignment check done: -within specs
Shocks declared good by alignment shop.
Steering and handling, beautiful
Dealer took a guess and replaced one tire; no change
No place around here with a treadmill to be able to listed outside the car
Not sure where to go next.
Comments or anyone with similar experience?
Thanks
David

What brand tires do you have? There have been numerous postings about certain brand tires being very noisy. For example, I had new Pirelli 17" PNet Zero M&S tires put on my vehicle and they started getting pretty noisy after 12 months, 12k miles and I replaced them with Yokahoma M&S tires which I've had on for over 2 years and they're still pretty quiet..........although I think I'll replace them in six months with Michelin PS2 tires. Regarding the vehicle alignment and drifting, there's a good posting by konigstiger in the W211 section on inherent alignment problems and even a camber/caster kit available for installation.......but says it does not affect tire wear. I recently noticed some bad inside tire wear just on the left sides and took to my MB Dealer who adjusted the vehicle's ride height front and rear.....said vehicle was "leaning" ($229). They also then did an alignment that adjusted caster, camber and toe-in settings ($95). Hopefully, I won't see any more of the tire wear problem when I get the new tires.

The tires on it are OE I expect, "Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus".
They are worn about what I would expect overall 6/32 remaining at 30K miles.
The alignment shop told me that there were no adjustments at all, for castor and camber.
I can live with the noise I suppose, would just like to know that there's nothing amiss.
I'll find Konistigers post.

I would have the dealer check on the shocks.Independent (not Mercedes specialized ) shops ,with their "push-down-see-if-it-bounces-up&down'' methods are not reliable.

Replace the tires.
Tires that cup and make noise in the E series 17" size
Mastercraft
Bridgstone
I am running Michelin's PS2's and they are quiet after 15,000 miles with even wear. No change to alignment or suspension just changed the tires.
