Door Lock Pulls
The W211 has just plastic plain door lock pulls that are just black and ugly, has anyone ever done anything to make them look better, whether it be with chrome, wood or leather? It shouldn't be too hard to make a mold for all 4 door pulls and give them some style...

I've seen two versions .. one from AMG and one from Brabus I believe that are replacements. Not too expensive.

The pre face-lift models have a nice, classy sprouting one, with chrome inserts. For some reason one of the small cost-cutting things M-B did with the face-lifts was to put in some super cheapo door pins.

These same pins are used in the USA on the CLK, so USA dealers can easily get them.
And, the notion "sit flush" indicates the true function, which is not--as the thread title hints--to pull them to unlock the door. Switch on the dash for that.
IMHO these are items to not be seen and getting chrome ones or the like is akin to replacing the plates surrounding in-your-house electrical switches with something featuring Kokopelli. Poor taste, that is.

Issue with the ones that sit flush is that if the doors are locked and that little button on the center console to unlock fails, you would have no way to unlock in an emergency.

Ok so I kind of took a lot of pictures for a really simple thing, but I thought some people would like to have this as a reference. The install was relativeally easy. I just had to screw out the old ones and put in the new ones. I used a vice grip because they are really screwed in tight. I also added O-rings because I thought it looked a lot nicer and added a personal touch.
Alright, so these are what they look like stock from the formymercedes.com site. I like them but they do look untasteful without the O-rings.

I didn't really like what I saw, but then I realized that I could put two O-rings around the two rivets and it would look really sharp for my black interior!

Those pictures are what it looks like with just 1 O-ring, which some of you might like better, I went with 2 O-rings each. For some reason, I decided to be really intelligent and not take pictures of what it looked like when you take the old door pins off, but it's just a really long screw. Once you take off the old ones (I saved mine) simply screw on the new ones. I had to use some force to get the new ones to screw on, so the threads would come within contact with each other, but I just hand tightened it. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL PINS IN THE UNLOCKED POSITION WHILE CHANGING THEM OUT! You can't get them out otherwise.

What it looks like finished with one O-Ring on each pin.

2 O-rings makes a much better look in my opinion and adds more detail to something that is often over looked.

Final product!
Ok, so all in all, I would recommend this mod with a few precautions. Make sure that you have all doors unlocked so that way you can screw them in. I also recommend that you have all your windows down so that you have more workspace, I almost broke a window with my vice-grip at first! If you do the O-Ring add like I did (I strongly recommend
) and you do double O-Rings, the lower O-ring will not clear the holes in the rear doors because the pins go down too low. They get pushed up over the rivet and touch the upper O-ring. It's an easy fix for this problem. All I had to do was un-screw the rear door pins 2-3 full revolutions and my problem was solved! I will add pictures of this problem soon so all visual learners will understand
Good luck and thanks for all the help! Smoked tails mod or black grille coming soon!
