Harbinger of things to come?
Hi Guys,
Well, just "upgraded" from W124 E320 Wagon to 2004 W211 E500 Wagon. Lovely car, but thank god I got a CPO warranty. Since I bought the car less than a month ago, it will have been in the shop for a entire week with various issues. The latest is collapsed motor mounts that apparently allowed the engine to move around, and then damage several downstream items including the transmission mounts, exhaust, etc. Jeesh.
Of course, on top of that issue, I still have several more issues that it's in the shop for, including errors from passenger seat airbag, spotty sunroof auto-close, weird paint peeling inside edge of rear door, gear whine when coasting at highway speeds, and a sunvisor light that works sporadically.
Any thing I ought to look for due to the collapsed motor mounts that might be longer term issues?
I assume it's going to get better, right? I guess maybe I won't be hasty in the sale of my trusty W124 after all...

Both Carfax and CPO process indicate no accidents, and all other data checks seems to be in line with no accidents...
Based on some of my searches, it appears collapsed mounts are not uncommon on these cars - guess this is what happens when they let go all the way. Who knows how long they've been shot, but I suspect for a while.

Yes, full maintenance history - would never buy a Merc without it. It doesn't appear the mounts have been done before, but LOTS of other stuff has been, including regular services. Car now has nearly 45k miles on it, so hopefully will get this sorted out. Again, thank god for 3 more years of CPO warranty!!!

Quick update. After 1 entire week in the shop, car has new motor and trans mount and a new rear diff (!) to address off throtle gear whine noise. I go to pick it up, drive one block, and clunking/rattling in back of the car IS STILL THERE! So, turn around and send it back. Not off to a good start here.
I'm pretty patient, and recognize this is a used car, but it is MB CPO, which implies to me a level of quality/health above and beyond a typical used car - I only bought this car a month ago, and it's been in the shop nearly 2 weeks of that month! I think I need to raise some hell with the dealer (a VERY large MB, Maybach, Bentley dealer in the DC area).

Goodluck! Purchasing a new benz should never entail these things

Service In Washington DC
I've had very good service from Euro Motors, they always have a loaner car available. Which is usually a C300. They are prompt and courteous. Car has come back clean and fixed. Now I haven't had to have the SL in yet for service but I've been satisfied with Euro on my CLK350.
I would also like to say that Mercedes Benz of Annapolis also has great service. You can usually get an appointment quicker there than at Euro.
Haven't heard of anyone using ASC for service, I do see quite a few of their cars with MD plates on them.
Good luck with your service

Thse days, unless you need a loaner, you don't need an appointment at any dealer from any Make here on Long Island. They'll always ask me when I get there: "Do you have an appointment?" To which I reply "No, but whenever you get to it is fine with me. Call me when its done." Its taken into the service bay the same way... It all depends on what's it need? ...and which Tech is available at this moment. Not to mention "is it all warranty or is the customer paying?"

Well, right now re: EuroMotorcars Service, I would say the following. I am very impressed with my service advisor, Mike Lang. He's a car enthusiast and upstanding guy. In fact, he's probably the only positive thing about the experience at this point. Regarding the rest of the service department, I'll have to hold judgement until this issue is sorted out, but I'm inclined to think they are likely ok. IMO, it's the service advisor that really makes or breaks it, and in this case, Mike is top notch.

I had my first experience with MB ASE in Arlington. Found oil seepage/leak on DS valve cover. Called and set an appt to take it in. Also asked them to pull my VMI which showed an outstanding recall on Pilot Bushings. Got a rental for 2 days, but the next day said it was ready to pick up and they fixed both. Under CPO warranty and no charge for both fixes. First time taking the benz in for service.
Hopefully i don't have to experience the other stuff that is wrong with the E500. SBC, airmatic, ball joints, etc....Car has 31k miles on it...
