Navigation Activated, Please Wait...

I get a "Navigation activated, Please Wait..." message randomly when I start the car. I can go for days without it happening, and then it will happen a few times in a day and will continue until the car has been shut off for a few minutes.

It has yet to happen when at the dealer, so they have not found any problems. They have updated the software and I have the most recent nav disc.

Any thoughts???

Yep, happens on both the E500 and S500. Shut down and restart corrects the problem.

Kind of ironic.... , I read this thread yesterday, and today, for the first time, mine did it.

Just one of the reasons I don't like 'fly by wire' aircraft. Or cars, for that matter.

Say what? That has absolutely nothing to do with a MANUAL navi system in cars.

Are you guys using burned copies of the OEM NAV disc? This happens to mine about twice a year. Every time it starts happening, I burn another copy and I'm good to go for another 6 months or so. I believe that low quality DVDs are the culprit in my case.

If you car was garaged or placed in some shady place, then navigation needs some time to obtain satellite signal. Note that a satellite sends a signal once in 30 seconds.

No, got that msg on a 3 mile drive home, wide open spaces. Was working fine when I parked at a store, but when I came out and restarted , got the msg.

@Benzo...yes, it is a burned back up copy that I have installed. I'll put the original disc back in tomorrow and see what happens.

The op states, however, that he is using the lastest Nav disc, so I'm assuming his is an original disc. ( and he had the dealer check it out)

Doesn't matter if mine is in the garage or outside, it can happen either way. It ONLY happens when initially starting the car, not in the middle of a trip.

I use an original in one car and a copy in the other - happens to both cars with both discs. It happens so infrequently, I really don't care. Plus, it is on rare occasions that I pull up the map anyway; I usually have the SIRIUS screen displaying.

Mine has been doing it constantly since driving it up to WI. It is the original disk, and it was quite dirty, but cleaning it did not resolve the issue. Maybe I should try and burn a copy.

Navigaton

I had the same problem develop over the past month. Didnt happen at dealer on first visit, on second visit they isolated it to the DVD drive in the trunk. Dealer replaced unit under warranty and works fine. They first tried upgrading software and nav disc with no luck. Now I have to buy the new nav disc if I want and have them update again. I plan to stop in to dealer monday to buy disc and have them update. I was told $240 for new nav disc. I wznt 3d view.

Mine does this once and awhile with an OEM disc. The only thing that seems to fix it (for me) is to remove and re-insert the disc.

So there is no fix for this? Every time I try and tell my dealer about this issue, they say that they cannot recreate the issue. My car is almost out of warrantee, so I need to fix this asap.

I get the navigation activated screen maybe one in 5 times when I start my car. But every time it happens I don't have an appointment to bring the car in.

Any ideas on what to tell the dealer? This seems to be a common problem...

Next time it occurs, drive to the dealer have the first available SA witness it then request a shop foreman take a look at because the problem is intermittent.

Mine just started doing this. I still had the orignal 2005 disc, so I cleaned it and tried again and it kept doing it. Burned the latest disc from ISO and got it to install, did the firmware upgrade and then showed maps, but it still does it every time I start the car now.

Someone said to hold the cd button until it reboots. Mine is a 2016 e250 and does not have a cd button. I held the ON button until it rebooted and it fixed the problem. Not just turn it off and back on again. But you have to hold the button for a bit to reboot it. By the way, this happens to my nav system only in the winter when it is cold out. Usually it comes back after 5 minutes or so. But today it did not come back for over an hour until I did the above reboot.
