MB tire and wheel protection warranty for AMG 18's

is it worth it? of course the finance managers make it sound like every little bump in the road will make the AMG rims/tires explode!
they have offered up to 5 year plans. are they with unlimited mileage? Do they try to patch or plug instead of replace if they can? Is it pro-rated at all for worn tires? if not, whats to keep someone from purposely ruining them at the end of its tread life? do they match the brand and model of other existing tires or just give you whatever tires they have in stock? thanks

They will match brand/size/model.
They will patch if possible, or replace if needed.
Tire must have 3/32" tread life of better remaining to be covered.
For wheel repair/replacement it MUST NOT SEAL AIR.

Used it once...replaced tire, and repaired the rim. If the rim wasn't repairable - it would have been replaced. WELL WORTH IT.

Already paid for itself on our '09 GL Bluetec. We bought it because of the runflat tires, which can not be repaired. Hit a pothole and bent a wheel, then had to drive on the "flat" tire for about 20 miles. Replacement cost was a total of $1403 for the wheel and tire with no cost to us.

IIRC, the cost for the wheel/tire warranty was around $600 for 5yr/50k. I would recommend it with MB's "soft" cast wheels that were designed to bend with low profile tires to protect the aluminum suspension components. If you have runflat tires, the wheel/tire warranty is a must!

Had two new tires provided -- its paid for itself. One had a bubble in the sidewall, the other a gash in the tread. They will not cover vandalism, and I had to wait a couple of days for an adjuster as there were two tires involved, but it was zero cost. Would definitely buy this protection, especially of you drive in urban potholed areas.

Agree. Well worth it. A friend of mine has used it twice already here in Northern NJ with the friggen craters we have in our roads. I bought it too....one claim pays for the cost.

I try and avoid every road defect, but there is always that one you cant avoid...and those can be killers!

"soft" cast wheels AMG

I have the AMG alloy wheels on my 2009 E550. I hit the first pot hole about four months coming off the freeway damaging the side wall of one tire. Replaced both front tires. About a month ago coming off the freeway hit another pot hole taking out the rear tire. Replaced both rear tires. I had a slow leak in the front tire a couple of days ago. The tire shop found a hair line fracture on the inside lip of the wheel. The front tire size is 245/40R 18.

Your prior posting indicates that there are "soft" cast wheels available that are stronger than the alloy wheels. Are they AMG wheels that will match the other wheels on the vehicle?

My friend purchased a 2010 E550 Coupe. He purchased the warranty of the wheels $1,200.00. He told me a couple of friends also hit pot holes they had to buy a new wheel and tires.

if you live in pothole country, low profile rims are a bad idea. I am looking at getting a 2nd set of rims (with a healthy sidewall) as personal insurance

I looked at the Mandrus Millennium they sell for about $376.00 they are sold at the MB dealers and Discounts Tire. The AMG from the dealer is about $725.00 plus shipping. I am not sure if any wheel will hold up in pot hole country.

I found a place to repair the small fracture for $125.00. The repair shop is a large nationwide company with a franchise in my area. I will see how that works out.
