You want to one up your cousin?? Get a 2004+ 5 Series the bigger the motor!!! LOL Just kidding.!!! I would get w211 E500 great price for the type of car... or if you can find a decent w210 e55 is a nice car also...Hopefully I didn't get anyones panties in a bunch.... w204 is a nice car but a little too small for me and it wont have the same power as the v8's.

+1 I redid my whole image with getting an E-Class, I love it! A lot more sporty than the old man S-class, I'm kind of glad I moved down! People need to suck up their pride in this country.

If your doing this upgrade to get your cousins attention, thats pretty sad. What is more sad, is that people judge you based on what your drive(so I do understand your wants). It's called materialism. And remember cars don't apprciate in value. So make wise moves in life for yourself and your family. Certain things are more important in life than just cars... Your gulity of materialism and so am I (can't lie), but try to see the bigger picture...

For me, i'd get a w204. imo, it looks way better and 'newer'. doesnt matter if its a c300 (amg kit of course) or a c63, im just in love with the body from all angles. BUT, w211 is classy... and of course the power of that v8 is awesome. I have driven both, its just really power vs looks. and for me, i'd choose looks (its not like your gonna hammer it all the time right?)

If you plan to mod, get the E500 without a doubt, its easier/more reliable to improve looks than improve power.

E500 but try to get 05 + its about $21K to $23k still much better price than the new C300 or C350, and you can find all equiped with AMG apperance pak at that price.

This whole thing is ridiculous. I mean a W210 E-Class and he's snobby? I love those cars but barely the "status-symbol" they once were, of course considering someone is one who'd dumb enough to use cars as a status symbol anyways....

I'd go for the E-Class hands down, style is subjective and I definitely think the W204 is less attractive, and resembles some regular Japanese compacts too much. As well I don't think the W211 is "out-dated" at all, no more-so than the W204, but again, I'm not one who judges cars or designs by what's "new", just by what I see as superior.

Quality, refinement, interior, bang-for-the-buck, luxury, ride, engineering, etc. wise it's NO CONTEST. The W204 has the worst interior, cheap materials, and although very strong and solid, just seems chintzy in some ways. As well if it is "status" you're looking for, it's an entry-level M-B, and judging by the way your "friend" is, he's probably one of those types that don't consider a C-Class a "real Benz", so you'll still be pulling your hair out.

Also, there's a reason the people on the W211 Forum are more mature and nice, and the W204 section is a flame-fest, High-School-esque mess.

+1 I visited it just for kicks one time, what a mess that was! You can see the type of people and different desires of people and their cars the higher up the forum you go. The more money the car = the lower temperature the hid's are! Example, Civic, S63.

E500 is the way to go. Gotta rethink the reason though.
