Thanks for all the comments. Below is a summary of what I've heard
1) 2003-06 is less reliable then 2007-09
2) Most warranty stories seem to come from the 03-06 crowd
3) The cost of the warranty has basically doubled over the life of the e-class (from 2k to 4k apples to apples)

If I wait past 30 days from purchase, I am liable for a 15% surcharge. But am I allowed to purchase the warranty later (say 3.5 yrs from now) while still under the factory warranty? The only drawback being that the price of the warranty may increase between now and then (not the surcharge but the basic warranty cost 4k->6k) Is that right?

Has anyone had this problem?

Memory seat failure
Rear air spring replacement
Airmatic air compressor total replacement

I hope this answers your question. I have not had the transmission replaced or the command module.

My guess is if the transmission failed under warranty it would be replaced. It probably won't just "wear" out in 100000 miles but might fail due to gycol injestion common on some radiators.

I would hate to think what this car would have cost without the warranty. The salesman told me "MB's are great cars and you really don't need to spend the $$ on the extended warranty". Whew glad I did. This car has been a since I bought it. The one good thing I have is the dealer has been the best dealer and service manager for service I have ever used in 50 years of owning a car.
Has the MBUSA policy changed?

Once they fix a system under CPO warranty they will not fix it again under warranty and will charge you.

I've had the doors fixed 4 times on my G500 under warranty (so did the former owner!) and NOW they tell me they won't do it anymore.

Don't know if the policy changed but each repair I have had fortunately was only once. But consider the CPO contract is not policy if it is written in contract form. Therefore if you have a contract and it does not state only 1 repair then they would be required to provided the service.

I would suggest you just read your contract and use that as a basis for repeat failures. It might state only 1 repair but it may also not include a limit. Best of luck.

Do they finance extended warranty? I am think of getting extended warranty. But don't think I can pay $4 to 5k in one shot.

Good question but I would tell you to shop the warranty ahead of time. Any MB dealer can sell it to you and there is a lot of profit in there for the dealers

When you buy the car included the warranty on the invoice and you might be able to finance it as part of the car.

If you have a part fixed under warranty, and it fails again while you are still under warranty, the repair is covered.

If you have a part fixed under warranty, and it fails again when you are out of warranty, the 12mo/unlimited mileage parts warranty does not apply. Parts warranty only applies for parts purchased by the consumer.....

Does this clarify?

MB does not offer finacing for ELW purchases (except when bundled with the car loan). Some aftermarket warranties do offer financing at 0% interest. Be careful when buying aftermarket and make sure it is an excusionary contract.

Ouch.. that means we have to pay 4k to 5k in one shot? I better start saving now before my warranty expires.

Vettdvr - If you have a CPO warranty, did you get any of your interior wood trim replaced under it? I have a couple cracks in my wood trip, the doors seem to crack because of the pressure applied to open/close them (cigarette door and beverage holder door). My Dealer says replacement of wood trim is not covered under a CPO extended warranty.

The wood trim on the ash tray cracked when the car had 12,000 miles and it was replaced. Don't know if they used CPO or Origional new car warranty. I bought the car CPO but it only had about 10,000 miles on it and about 6 months old.

I have less than 200 miles remaining on my factory warranty for my 07 GL450.

So if someone has her contact info, please pass it along.

Thanks

Brake Failure

I own a 2003 Mercedes E270 and have experienced brake failure on three separate occasions. On the first occasion I had it checked by our local mechanic who could find no fault and suggested that we drive the car carefully. On the second occasion we sent the car to the Mercedes agent who said that we had changed the brake pads and allowed air into the system resulting in brake failure. We duly paid the R4000.00 for their repair and was assured that we would have no more problems. Well guess what, it failed again and now having had the car at their workshop for six weeks they have gone into shut down mode stating that they are awaiting for a response from Germany. This is my sixth Mercedes but will be my last. As we are now at the end of our tether it looks like we will have to resolve this matter in court.

She was at Courtesy Motors in Chico CA but apparently is no longer there. If you are the original owner and are looking for an extended factory warranty, then call some dealers and start bouncing prices off them. It's a 100% markup product for the dealer. So, you should be able to find a dealer who will sell it to you at a competitive price.

Ive called 3 so far and they are all $5160 for a 3 year 50,000 mile extended MB warranty.
Sounds a little high to me.
One girl did say her "Rep" will sometimes offer 10% off to make his quota.

What do you guys thinks?

That number is fully negotiable. The extended warranty adding 3 years and another 50k miles cost me in the mid 4Ks at the dealer---after negotiating. He came close to the number offered by the Chrysler Warranty outfit; that quote I received in an email and forwarded to him. Close was good enough for me.
