Mercedes Extended Warranty - in practice not theory
I was reading through the fine print for the Mercedescare extended warranty and had some questions. It would be great if people who have claimed with the extended warranty can comment.
1) Does it cover automatic transmission repair? The clutch discs wear out over time and the transmission starts slipping, is this my problem or Mercedes?
2) Is the Command module covered?
Below is a short list of common and not common but expensive problems, can people comment on actual costs?
- Ball joints - front suspension
- PZEV only - fuel sender failure requires removal of gas tank
- Command module
What did I miss?

What did I miss?
ball joints
transmission leaking at electrical connector
door locks
a/c blower motor
SBC total brake replacement to include towing
ignition switch replacment
Hot water heater valve
Ash tray wood cover
Cig lighter socket replacement
Memory seat failure
Rear air spring replacement
Airmatic air compressor total replacement
I hope this answers your question. I have not had the transmission replaced or the command module.
My guess is if the transmission failed under warranty it would be replaced. It probably won't just "wear" out in 100000 miles but might fail due to gycol injestion common on some radiators.
I would hate to think what this car would have cost without the warranty. The salesman told me "MB's are great cars and you really don't need to spend the $$ on the extended warranty
". Whew glad I did. This car has been a
since I bought it. The one good thing I have is the dealer has been the best dealer and service manager for service I have ever used in 50 years of owning a car.
With all the stuff my merecdes warranty covered, I am practically driving a brand new car.

The only thing they wouldn't cover were items that had to do with the leather trim such as seats, armrest, etc.

Prices have gone up a lot in the past few years. On my 2003 E320, the cost was a little over $2000 for a 3 year extension on the 4 years that was standard. I understand it is well over twice that now.
poor reliability?
I've never purchased an extended warranty for any car I've ever purchased but you guys on here scare me. On the one hand, from what I read, the newer model years seem to be reliable. On the other hand, it seems like some have had a lot of maintenance covered by the extended warranty, where components failed after the 4 year/50K warranty.
Are only 1 in 1000 getting benefit from the extended warranty, or is it more like 1 in 5? Have owners in the 07-09 models not been reporting failed components yet only because not enough miles have been driven on these newer models? In 2005, were owners already saying the 03-05 had maintenance issues?
I'm thinking about not purchasing the extended warranty and hoping the car is reliable enough from 50K -> 100K miles and and 4 years -> 7 years. Or do all the members here feel this is a bad decision? Does $4-5K pay for most of what can go wrong from an indy shop?
Took it in for service to take a look at it along with getting an oil change($90). SA said grease/oil isn't from the shock at all, but maybe from road hazard that i ran over??? Okay, like i buy that. And SA also said that the top of the shock tower should have some/lil amount of grease on it which is normal.
Looked at it when i got home and looked the same. Not sure if the Tech even looked at it. Tech could have at least cleaned it off so if new grease/oil comes back on, can tell if its def coming from the shock/arm. But will do myself this weekend and monitor it.
You know the 1st 50,000 miles on a car are its best, most trouble free. So by prepaying for the repairs after 50K (with a warranty) what you are getting is piece of mind, and the feeling that you just drive in as if you were still under warranty, with all the handshakes, and coffe & bagels, and the whole experience is nice, warm & friendly instead of feeling like you were robbed for the repair and that you were stupid for buying such an expensive car to repair to begin with, and that Lexus owners are really the brighter people on your block.
I put the warranty on my because it is the best car I have ever owned, and the most pleasureable to drive, and I knew that I would want to drive it for a couple of years without making any payments on it. (7 more payments to go) whick will put me into year 6. Even the best car in the world will need hard parts by then (beyond consumables) & it won't be a painfull experience.
My '04, on the other hand needed the extended warranty just to stay on the road, & even MB wanted no part of covering the audio system and other things excluded on the extended warranty at that time.
So if you plan on keeping your car beyond 48 months, and you never want to be remoursefull, bite the bullet & buy the policy then forget about it. 1 expensive repair, even if its less than what you paid for the coverage has the power to ruin your love for this car. On some cars its smart to avoid this expensive warranty purchase & take your chances & "self insure". I wouldn't do it on a car this expensive to repair. 1 repair & you're toast.

odd that all the users here say the light/warning went off after replacing , switch, sensor, etc. can someone please verify?? at $120/hr it's rediculous to take the car there so they turn it off.
