Does CD-R Play in the Front Load

My daughter just downloaded 100 classic rock songs and I want her to make me CD's. Will they play on my new 60K car?

Only if she burns them as a normal CD. Not if she just copies them to a CD as MP3's.

(In fact, rumour has it the audio equipment does have the ability to play MP3's but this is turned off. MBtech, any comment?).

This release from MB was published in the Jan/Feb The Star (MBUSA mag):

"Non-Commercial CDs in MB CD Units:

Programmable compact discs such as CD-R and CD-RW may not play correctly in MB USA CD players. If you encounter this problem with CD-R and CD-RW audio CDs in these players, verify correct operation of the player with a commercial CD. Due to variations in CD-R and CD-RW media and technical inconsistencies in programming them, MBUSA does not support their use in MB CD players."

I have cut CDs and play them in my E. My understanding is the only the CD R will work.

We are talking two separate issues.

1. PHYSICAL Format

CD works. CD-R that you burn usually works. I have had no problems.

2. LOGICAL format.

MP3's on a CD will not work. Normal audio CD format (technically, WAV files), WILL work.

Cheers
Michael

I've successfully played a CD-R in the CD0 and changer slots and even a CD-RW in the CD0 slot (haven't tried a CD-RW in the changer yet).

Often players can play one brand or color of CD-R better than others. If your CD-R's don't play properly then burn another on a different brand of CD-R.

Oh, yeah check for fingerprints too.

Mine works perfectly - Different brands of CD-R's always burned as Audio CD's using either Apple's Itunes or Nero Burning software on windows. I have other cd's that I burned using CD-Record in Linux and they also work just fine.

Are you sure you used a CDRW?
I would be very happy to hear they are now using a CDRW compatible system now.

Yup, I was surprised that it worked. I'm using a CD-RW from Verbatim and it works perfectly in both the single and 6 cd changer (just tried the changer yesterday). I haven't tried any other brands though.

I tried a TDK CDR in the built in single cd changer and it worked fine (used audio cd, not mp3). Didn't bother trying with CDRW's cuz they aren't the best choice for pure audio cds unlike the CDRs.

I tried a bulk CD-R on the 6 CD Changer of the test car and it worked fine.

In fact, rumour has it the audio equipment does have the ability to play MP3's but this is turned off.
Maybe a crack / patch for the CD Player to enable MP3 playing????.

All I play in my changer is burned CDs

They work without any problem.

They are NOT MP3 but REDBOOK standard.

Lightbulb mp3 CD-R's

work perfectly in the CD changer. Sometimes the labels applied to burned CD's make the disc too thick and therefore will not be accepted in the CD changer, i.e., will be immediately ejected or worse get stuck. My advice, if you burn your own, don't afix a label.
