Transmission Issue on Brand New 2009 E350 with 285 miles!!!
Hello all!
Ive purchased a brand new 2009 E350 with 9 miles on the odometer 3 weeks ago and now the car has just under 300 miles. I've noticed last night when the car going over 40 to 50 MPH and normal stops slowly, the transmission is jerking really hard at 1000 to 1200 RPM while pushing the brake. It feels like the car got hit from the back(My whole body pushed towards the front) and I can even hear the clear noise like you drop the heavy box on the ground...
I never had any transmission issue from other Merecdes we had before and this seems a big problem especially on brand new car with under 300 miles as I'm bring in my car to the Dealer tomorrow morning to see if this is really a trans issue.
Does anyone has 2009 E350??? Would you please let me know how you feel(Car responds) when you slow down from 40mph at 1200 RPM...The car down shifts at 3000 and between 1000 to 1200 RPM...I like to know this before I take my car tomo...I'm sure the service guy will tell me the BS as always " Sir, this is pretty much normal for all mercedes"...
I will keep posted...
Thanks in advance!

I'm so pissed!!! Even my old 92 Camry with 220,000 miles feels better with stock transmission...
Now I know why MB dealer gave me a $19,000 discounted from MSRP plus the 2.9% Financing...They just want a get rid of all the JUNKS...
I hope all the peoples from MBUSA read my post!!!

2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.

If you drive the car in "C" mode, does that solve the problem? If so, then you will need (at least) a transmission computer software update & re adaptation at the service department.
Its a solid dependable transmission which helps to deliver superb MPG on the highway, but the 2 >1 downshift will forever at some times give you that "Bump from behind" or abrupt downshift.

sport or comfort mode?
I thought the 350s stayed in 2nd gear in comfort mode? Just a guess but you may be in sport mode. The Bluetecs always stop and start in first gear, regardless of mode, but the 350 and 550, I was told, stop start in 2nd in comfort. So your car should not be going to first gear when stopping unless you are in sport mode. If in sport mode this behavior would be expected.
verify your mode. Its a great car and a great price. Your warranty will take care of any issues.

Sorry to hear about your transmission issue. Are you in C mode? The user's manual says to keep it in C mode for the first 1000 mile break in period. My 5 week old car now has 2200 miles on it and I haven't experienced the "bump from behind" feeling with it in S mode. Knock on wood. I wonder what percentage of cars have this problem?

The car seems perfectly fine and no jerking issue at all with C or S mode. It has about 520 miles on the odometer now and I'm thinking the transmission trying to learning my driving style. I will reset the ECU when they reach 1000 miles...
Thanks for all your helps!

Maybe you getting so pissed off calling the car 'junk' and even having a moderator modify your post, scared the transmission into submission.
Anyway, glad to hear it's behaving better now. Not only does the engine need break-in but also the rest of the components, e.g., the transmission. See how it goes after you add on some more miles.....

Ok,, I am definitely a skeptic on the MB after the 2003 E500. But I test drove a E350 2010 and it was impressive. I use the same dealership that sold and services my 2003. They are fully aware of the reliability issues I have had. My conversation with the Service mgr was he knew how many times I had been in for our car and I told him I planned to wait until the E350's had been out at least a year before I considered a new one. I told this to the salesman also.
Given the E350 does not have airmatic or sbc braking which is where I had my biggest complaints this should put it in the + column from the start.
Transmission issues are one for the new E class I am monitoring.
I really liked the E350 over any of the new caddy's lincolns etc that I have test driven. So from a driver view point the E350 is still at the top. For reliability the verdict is still out.

Regarding the transmission, isn't it the same since 2006? I'm not reading any issues with the transmission here. The 2nd to 1st gear jerkiness is brought up but it seems like that's a known issue for some cars and an easy fix.

I believe the transmission changed for the 2007-2009 models compared toe 2006 and earlier.
2006 and earlier have the 5spd and the 2007+ have the 7spd.

2004's and up have the 7 speed unless the car is an AWD, in which case all AWD cars get the 5 speed due to undercar space requirements.
There have been slight hardware revisions throught the run of the 7 speed, and numerous software patches/upgrades.

Hello everyone, I was recently (5 months ago) gifted a 2009 E350 when my FIL passed away. I had never owned an MB before and until recently, chalked up the lag in transmission during reverse as a MB thing, until I had to take it to a tire shop to fix a flat. The tech told me my car had a lag during reverse transmission. I then took it to my mechanic to get this fixed, and like mentioned above, he said it's most likely a software issue. My question is, given my car is no longer under warranty, do I still have recourse to go into an MB dealer and have them update my transmission software free of charge, or am I forced to fork out a lot of $$$ for this update at the dealer? If I have to pay, what's a reasonable cost of something like this? I live in Southern California.

How many miles?
When was the car last serviced at a dealer?
When was the last time the ATF was changed?
