53k miles and almost stalling/rough idle (rare)

Tonight, my e500 almost stalled after coming to a stop after hauling along at 55mph for 5 minutes straight. Is it time for new plugs? I got no error messages. I've seen it a few other times, but it isn't consistent. Any suggestions?

Possibly the Crank Position Sensor.

Would a code show up for that? Would I get an error message?

It seems to happen right after I brake hard (to near stopping or to stop). If I slow down easily, then it doesn't seem to misfire (or not nearly as badly). Any advice?

It's why I'm so sensitive to the car's rough idle.

It was the crank position sensor. The dealer did a temperature test to find the problem.

Ok thanks i will take into the dealership this week and ask them to do the same. I have the exact same car as you so most likely it is the same problem.

The independent shop I first tried couldn't figure it out. The dealer's temperature test uncovered the problem.

I'm not a tech, but my understanding is the sensor is marginal and provides reduced signal as the temperature increases. The problem isn't manifest until it gets hot. I think they just heat up the sensor with a heat gun.
