I did try key position 2 when in service menu but nothing happened.. am I missing a step ?

I didn't drive the W211 today, so I can't pull mine up, but there is a screen in there that presents you with " --:- "

When you see that screen, simply turn to key position 2, and wait 10 seconds.

As for the SL compared to the 211? Not even close. The SL trumps it in every way possible, except for passenger seating. It's like they were made by two different car companies. Keep in mind, the SL600 did sticker for $137,000.00 just 17K miles ago, so it better feel different. My E500 stickered for 1/2 of that. But that means I'm equating cost with quality, and we know that isn't always the case. This time, it most definitely is.
