- Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Why won't my sunroof open

E320 Panoramic Sunroof Repairs
I went to the Dealer in Erie PA. Had a couple of issues, one was the roof. 4700 plus 20 hours of labor and something about taking the window out was extra in case it broke... By the way stay away from this dealer took a full week to replay my water pump!, and no owner loaners!
Please send any instructions to maci@usa.com.
Thank you very much for any and all help.
Ps.
Seems like Mercedes should recall the motor, expensive option to work what 200 +/- times I opened the roof...
I have similar problem on my '98 E320 (sorry about posting here, but hopefully mechanism is similar). The sunroof will go up and down at the rear, but it will not open. It did once move about an inch with some creaking noises, but now doesn't move at all.
It wouldn't bother me to leave it like that, but I have some slight rust forming at the lip and I am sure sealing strip will have to come out to repair the rust.
Looking for a method of opening the roof manually - The manual method won't work. The socket the crank goes into does turn when teh switch is activated, indicating the motor is probably OK.
MB videos all show roof already open

I tried the fuse solution...no luck. Also tried the manual crank but it is so tight that nothing moves.
Thank you
What was your solution?
I do own a 211 Merc that's just sitting in my garage with the pano roof fully open.

Its not a daily driver so I'm in no hurry. I'm also quite handy and have a fully tooled garage. My issue is that this car is different than every other car I own and don't want to screw it up. I'm also 200 miles away from the nearest big city or dealer so I'm looking at doing it myself "IF" I can.
I'm annoyed that for a car that sometimes goes weeks without being driven has this problem.

Anyways, I appreciate your help and that of a fellow that has emailing me.

I'd buy you both a beer if you were near.
Thanks again.

Thank you Critter!
I don't have small hands but I got time and patience, hehe

Try this to get into the motor

Here is a good forum for the fix using a backing plate, works well

George is straight-forward and honest.
The motor in my panoramic moon roof failed and they charged $800 to fix.
The larger problem was my front right air strut failed. I had this happen to the other side and it was astronomically expensive (part alone $1750 + 2 hours labor). MBZ had a refurbished part in stock and replaced it for $900. The cheapest elsewhere I found was $1150 for refurbished. Similar situation previously with my headlight control unit. They used refurbished and saved me much $$$.
Thanks in advance!!
Hope all goes well for you
