Yes, will tilt when you are in reverse mode. Take your car to the dealer and they will do it at no cost. It takes only 2-3 minutes to do it. They will hook up the computer and programmed...They did my 09 e

There has been conflicting info on this for over a year. I took mine to the dealer and asked them to do it and they said impossible. They showed me a notice from MBUSA that said it has been "decontented".

Go to another dealer (one where you have a good relationship with your service advisor).

I dont think it is possible for it to tilt at all because it is going to need a motor for it to tilt which already isnt in the mirror so its not as easy as just reprogramming it.

Wouldn't it just use the same motor that is there to adjust for mirror settings???

Maintenance told me that it is "disabled" for W211s before 2009 and can be "enabled" via computer. For 2009 models it was "removed" and cannot be "enabled."

Wow... then my two 2009 E350's must be the exception!

I think you should go to another COMPETENT dealership to get it done... obviously the dealership/rep that told you that doesn't know much about the 2009 W211 AND doesn't care enough to research the problem, or that they are just telling you an excuse because they really don't want to do it for you (like a few other dealerships I've heard of).

Then apparently MBUSA put the motor in my two 2009 E350's then...

If a dealership wanted to, all they would have to do is hook up their computer, change 3 field variables, and it works. I know, I watched the drive tech enable this feature on both my 2009 E350's. It took less than 10 minutes.

I just find it hard to believe that if it had everything set up for it to tilt then mercedes would just enable it.

Of course its designed to tilt down. You can tilt the mirror down manually to the curb watching position any time you want. The feature was disabled by deleting the user selectable menu item in the cluster by MB for MBUSA market vehicles at MBUSA's request.

Ever hear of SW and the control it allows in modern electronics?

It has nothing to do with the mirrors. Its all in the motor movement.
So they are using different motors for ROW than US. And you know this how?

They probably took it out cause too many people came into the dealership complaining the mirror was tilting down by itself and they didn't know how to turn it off. So, the dealerships just b*tched to MBUSA who b*tched to DaimlerChrysler AG to take out the programming for US bound cars. This has happened with many features.

There was a rumor I heard from a S/A when I bought my car back in summer of 07 that the 08 cars wouldn't come with the auto tilt down feature when you put key in/take key out.
