Does Every E's Tranny behave like this ?

Happens only when driving off cold (after 2 min wam up) ... Regardless of the gear I get a slight jerk (Just once) between the speeds of 7 and 15 mph, I usually get it in the 2nd gear, but once I put it in manual mode- 1st gear and it jerked in 1st ......... As soon as the engine / tranny heats up, works just fine! ........ Is it worth worrying about ?

I think a lot of cars do this during the first one or two gear changes during warm-up modes. I don't think it's something to be worried about.

On the other hand, do make sure that you are replacing your transmission fluid and differential fluids.

I get the occasional jerky behaviour from the 5 speed as well:
Some odd abrubt downshifts at slow speed and a hesitation to upshift
when cold and coasting. The tranny has it's personality for sure...

I still can't figure out the computer on this car in regards to tranny and throttle behavior. It will be a mystery forever

My 5 speed does a little bit as well especially when first operating in cold weather.

+1. Even though MB calls ATF "lifetime fluid", it's recommended to be changed somewhere between 75,000 and 100,000 miles.

The hesitation to upshift in cold weather is the computer. It's programmed to let the engine rev a little bit higher to generate more heat to heat things up quicker. Now that it's getting chillier and chillier in the mornings here in NJ my car doesn't shift into 2nd gear until I get to the end of the street.

Cold Weather? It also does it in hot and steamy Florida summers, 85 degrees when I crank up the car in the morning. (And I love it....The hot and humid summers, not the quirky tranny..)

Yeah 85 degrees is still considered "cold" for the transmission fluid. It needs to get into the 150+ degree range. Once the transmission fluid reaches that temperature it becomes less viscose and the shifting become more smoother.

Most cars have similar issues when cold. All the liquids are cold and the car behaves weird when that's the case. I have the same on my CLK500, had same on a Lexus GS before that and the same on C320 before that. When trany is cold, it shifts stiff. the only cars i never had that were manual trans
Oh.. and a civic back in highschool, it just did not have enough power to jerk the car...

Yup - I've noticed mornings that are below 45 degrees, my car has that strange shift. But after a few minutes, everything is normal.
