Bad suspension or bad tires?

E500, 2004, Airmatic suspension, 245/40/18, 265/35/18- factory AMG rims
I’m just wondering if everything is right or not? As you can see on pictures below the tires are worn out (from inside) way too much uneven. I did alignment on the front, they told me that I am supposed to change the tires(rear) and after that they can check the alignment on the rear.? I know the tires should worn out inside more than outside because of the suspension, but is it ok so much, even for the airmatic suspension?
Will appreciate any help

Looks abnormal but I agree with the tire guy to do the rear alignment after putting the new tires on

You didn't say what brand of tires. My $$ is on the tires with the cause being how the belt is flexing under the tread area.

My guess is the tires are not michelins and have made in Japan stamped in the side wall.

I'm still on the tires as the issue. I am on set 4 on our E500 and finally have a set that runs quiet and handles well. Michelin pilot sport. Same as on the new S550 in the show room.

I am not sure whom you have direct the question.

I ran the placard pressures, when that didn't work I went to 4 psi + placard. Finally on giving up I went to 32 PSI all 4 and that with Michelins is working well.

Oops. That is good info, even though, I had intended to ask the OP. I think that running pressure too low can cause outer edge wear.

Low TP could cause inner & outer shoulder wear.

This is funny because I went through the same process. The dealers and the tire stores wanted to run 32 all around and I insisted on the placard. As I was warned by this board I start experiencing some outer front tire wear so now I just let them do what they wanted the cars seems to drive better that way as well.

I also have the Airmatic suspension and had bad inside tire wear just on the two left tires. My MB Dealer said the vehicle's suspension was causing the vehicle to not be level and adjusted everything plus four wear alignment costing me about $300. I've got new Michellins installed about 4k miles ago and we'll see if their adjustments fixed the uneven tire wear or not.

Is the car lowered? If so then you need to get the camber corrected.
