Is my MPG this good?

So I am a new E550 owner and I'm convinced my computer is not calculating the MPG correctly.

Yesterday I got a solid 28.5mpg on the highway while cruising at 65-70mph. My buddy who owns a G37 has already made a comment to me about how much gas this car will sip. So far it's identical to my GS350 or maybe even a bit better unless the computer is wrong of course.

Anyone else get this kind of number from a RWD E550?

Thanks.

Driving slow like that on the freeway (esp if using cruise control) and they can do okay. I can get 24-25 on the freeway with the 63 motor. But it's kinda hard to be so vigilant.

I get 28mpg on the highway at those same speeds, in my E500. Gotta love the 7G

Mileages sound about right. We get 26 at 70 solid cruise with our E500.

How does the GS350 compare to the E550. I was considering buying a GS350 or G37, and test drove a 10. More power than the new E350 with both being V6. Just wondering how the two compared by someone who owned them.

On my 2003 E500, I can get 28 - 30 mph while on cruise control doing 60 mph on flat roads.......not bad for a V8!

yup i was getting about 16mpg around town, stop/go a lot.
Then after seeing what everyone got on here i tried again but on the motorway (our eqiv to a freeway) and was getting around 23-24mpg. I can see if we had flat roads and being a little more careful i could get up to 27 or so but this is a v8 5L everyone .... where is the fun in driving smoothly :P haha

Agreed but it's cold here and the roads are slick.

The GS350 must get some crappy mileage if a 5.5L V8 is doing around the same. Lol, toyota and their "green marketing". Ya the G37's don't do well at all with gas mileage compared to many cars, especially since it is a V6.

These Benzes are great for hwy driving. Autobahn built .

My E350 is 80%+ highway and I'm pleasantly surprised that I'm averaging over 27MPG on fill ups now. On my trip computer, for a 240 mile trip, it read 29.9MPG. I was hoping I would see the magical 30.0 but I neared home and the reading dropped as I drove on streets to get home.

The GS350 might get lower MPG due to the approximate 40 hp over the MB in the V6

We're talking about the 550 here not V6 E.

OOPs I was thinking the V6 in the GS350 but it could be a V8.

We have the E500 and 25.5 is a norm on the highway at about 70 + or so

Don't laugh too hard

I recall CR tested large luxo sedans not too long ago and the LS460L got upper 20's highway...much better than comparable German models.

My old 5-Speed S500 was able to get a comfy 28 MPG on good roads/days (Highway).

My E can do 28 easily, and has even gone up to 29! Almost reached 30 a few times to boot.

Yup, my '08 E550 easily does over 25mpg on the freeway. I've done one or two 120mile round trips, almost all highway and had the computer report 27-28mpg. I find if I do the math manually at the gas pump, the computer shows 1mpg higher than actual, but yes, the our V8 5.5L w/ 7G = amazing.

40+ with the cruise set on 83.

High 20s around town, occasionally topping 30.

Gotta love diesel!

Well Kudos to Mercedes then because this kind of mileage out of almost 400hp is downright amazing. I have been meaning to do the math at the pump but always forget. Nice to know that the computer is pretty close to exact.

My C55 back in the day never got anywhere near 28.5mpg on the highway so the transmission must be making all the difference in the world.

70mph on the highway is 15mph over the limit around here so that isn't exactly slow.

You can thank the 8-speed trans for that in the Lexus.
