Amazing? Now this is amazing...

2000 Yukon XL with 5.3 L V8 - 23 mpg highway, manually calculated.

Now THAT's impressive.

unfortunately i cannot say the same about our 2006 yukon xl denali with a 6.0L V8 - Best I've gotten on the hwy is about 18. I usually get 12 on city and 17 on hwy. I will never get an AWD car as long as I live in an area with no snow, so pointless and I don't understand my friends that buy AWD cars and think it's so cool. I'll take my RWD thank you very much. i also wish we bought the shorter version, not the xl, more practical that way and i would have opted for the 4.8L as well.

nopcbs, I remember our 2002 Suburban with the 5.3L V8 getting similar mileage. That thing was great.

O/T but do you know anyone with the '07+ Tahoe/Yukon's that can get mid 20's on the Highway? The Manufacturer listed MPG is rated at like 20 I think, which is high for those cars, wondering what they are capable of realistically.

ya, i don't know anyone with the 07+ tahoe/yukon. For the regular models, the tranny and engine is pretty much the same (4.8L V8 or 5.3L V8, both with 4 speed auto) . However, the yukon denali gets a 6.2L V8 instead of a 6.0L one, and it gets a 6 speed with tiptronic instead of a 4 speed auto.

The govt web site lists the 06 5.3L at 13 and 18 and the 07 5.3L at 14 and 20. The 06 denali is rated at 12 and 16 and the 07 denali is rated at 12 and 18.

I think if you go easy on the pedal, you can get 20 on the hwy with the 5.3L V8 but no way with the denali or escalade.

My E500 consistently gets 25.6 mpg with 330 or so hp. But amazing,, MY Corvette 400+ is getting 27.5

Isn't the vette made out of plastic or fiberglass or something?

Yes about 3246#'s curb weight for Corvette and E500 is about 3900#'s

But you must also consider 75+ more hp in the corvette. Many think the corvette gives poor mileage but it gives great mileage

High torque engine allows low rpm at 70+ mph and reduces fuel flow.
Low CoD about .29 while MB actually reports from MB .24 on the E500.

700 #'s doesn't make a bunch of mileage. But engine efficiency and Cod Does.

OFF TOPIC,,

You are so right. Until you have driven one at 130+ on the track windows down you haven't experienced it yet. Great car I plan to sell my 1 owner 99 and buy a new one.

Same story here. I had a C6Z06. 25MPG at 80MPH on the road. Almost 20MPG around town.

Didn't like the car but it was very fast and got good mileage.

Nope, not even close

NOV 2007 CR. Lexus LS460L vs. MB S550.

Lexus did 13 mpg city and 32 mpg highway while the Merc did 11 mpg city and 27 highway. That is a 5 mpg spread highway and almost 20% city. In fact, the LS highway number is not too far off of what an E-series diesel will do, 35 mpg highway in the CR test in the same issue. I call that almost phenomenal.

Their acceleration nos. are comparable: LS 0-60 mph in 6.2 vs. 6.0 sec for Merc. 45-65 nos. are 4.1 and 4.3 sec, respectively. 1/4 mile nos. are 14.6 vs. 14.4 sec, respectively.

Car weight is identical. The LS clearly has a better engine/transmission combination.

Get this, an E350 tested at 14 mpg city and 29 highway, so that big LS beats the E V6 on highway mpg.

Toyota builds some darned good powertrains.

God, I'd love to shed 1000lbs in my SL600

Wow! How is an SL so much heavier than an E-Class?

Well, I guess it's the heavy Vert equipment, and giant V12 with 2 Turbo's strapped to it.

And that was with only 1/8 tank of fuel. I was at the race track....

The V12 is uber heavy and the whole top/folding mechanism weighs a ton.

I think MB prices their cars by weight too. It seems the heavier they are, the more money they cost. Mine stickered at $137,000.00

i just ran a 440 mile trip today. 07 E350. at the avg of 64mph i was getting 29.0 mpg. if you drop that down to 55 i was getting 32. i have pics too.

also i was coming down the grapevine north of LA, and i dropped it in nuetral and reset it, and i got 90mpg. haha.

realistically though, freeway in california you gotta do 65-75 and i get around 26.7-28mpg

I had a 1992 ZR-1 Corvette back in the day, and managed over 30 with the power key off on a long trip. It was amazing.

Corvettes get great MPG if you drive them right with the tall high gear.

lol pedals now they know how us MB E drivers felt with the whole SBC thing

it was kind of funny actually since my toyota/lexus friend were bragging the other day about toyota's quality and how MBs have so many problems.

My 2008 E550 is trouble free (knock on wood).

My 2001 Corolla had crap falling off (armrest, etc.) within a couple of years of buying it new.

1995 4Runner .. head gasket problem, not covered by Toyota's recall. Had to redo the engine on my dime .. $3k. Lots of other problems as well within a few years of owning it and I baby my cars.

Will *NEVER* buy another Toyota.

I wish I could tell the Toyota CEO this: Krama is a mother f'kr.

I am HAPPY they are getting theirs. They cost me A LOT of money when I wasn't doing well financially and it stressed the hell out of me. They admitted to problems but cut deals with the govt to not recall certain 4Runner engines even though they had known problems.

That is the biggest crock of s**t. I have never heard of anyone hitting 32 mpg in a 460L, and 11mpg in the city in an S550? Are you serious? My wife's Escalade ESV gets 11.5!! I get 17-18 around town, and I'm talking LI traffic conditions.

I still cannot come to any other conclusion that CR is the most biased non-impartial mag in history...

+1, the S550 can get 15 in the city all day long. our 02 CL500 gets 15, but remember it has 2 less gears. i'm sure the hwy mpg for the S is somewhere in the mid 20's.
