Plastic gear shift position indicator
Ok the wife dropped something on the plastic indicator and broke it. This is the R D N indicator. Can just the plastic be replaced or does the entire panel have to be replaced and if so does anyone have the part numbers.
Also is there any info on how to remove the panel to replace the part. Thanks vettdvr![smash](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smashfreak.gif)
Warning don't drop sunglassed keys, or cell phones on the wood grain shifter panel. And don't ask how I know.

Turn on the ignition and set park brake then move gear selector to Drive position, then remove the ashtray, just the tray part.

Now you can move the gear selector surround. Gently lift on the forward edge and it will pop loose, lift ti and move it to the rear. I used rags to prevent any damage to the console or the surround.

Remove ash tray housing and unplug electrical connection.

A good pic of the rags, notice still in gear.

Thanks for all the help I was able to find a replacement part for the shift indicator and following instructions replaced it in 20 minutes.
Total cost about $100 vs $350 for the new panel and switch. vettdvr

Actually If I remember I did a youtube search and found it.
The only issue I had was getting the shifter knob off. The video shows
remove this clip? What clip? I didn't see no stinkn clip!
But it is easy to get off exclusive of the shifter knob. Shift in drive set brake.
Remove ash tray, lift up front of wood grain panel and slide it forward about 3/4" and it will unhook from rear. J type hooks on rear. Then I used dental tool to depress tab on plugs to unplug switches. I got it all off exclusive of the knob and was able to turn it over enough to change the part.
The wife helped by holding it for me.![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
