Even if the squeaking is driving u nuts, holding a tissue paper against an idling fan-belt is risky - the thing is sticky & would drag ur finger into the pulley - I learnt the hard way ... tryin to remove that stupid thing i sprayed on earlier, the squeaking went away immediately ... so did my nail

ouch
i was confident the belt can never drag me to the pulley a foot away ... as it got cleaner it got stickier and then literally dragged it till i pulled it out.. i grinded in there for abt 1/2 a sec..

It can happen before you know it. I learned the same way you did, just a different situation. You just never know when the gremlin will grab you but if you work on stuff long enough it will happpen.
