suspension issue on e500

i've posted this in the mb tech forum but no avail. hoping some fellow e class owners can shed some light on my siutation. I have an 03 e500, when driving on smooth surfaces the suspension feels normal. As soon as i hit a pothole or manhole the rear driver suspension makes a hollow thump sound . Its hard to describe, almost as if the suspension is set to sport mode and there is no give from the strut. any body else encounter this issue with their cars?

thanks in advance

Do you have aftermarket wheels? Also have you checked your tire pressure?

Currently have aftermarket amg reps with winter tires on and yes the air pressure is correct. Don't think I has to do wit wheels, just wanted to get some feed back before mechanic opens up tommorow.

My guess bad rear shock.

you guys are right! it was a leaking rear left shock. Couldnt believe how much it cost to replace that thing. Part alone from MB was $600 (canadian that is) thanks for the input.
