The main differences between Alcantara and Suede is weight and material. Suede is a animal product, an is heavy. Where Alcantara is a man made product developed to simulate Suede. Doesn't wear as well as suede, and is thinner and lighter. I wouldn't recommend Alcantara for anywhere in the car, that will have contact with the driver. Like seating surfaces, steering wheels, arm rests as it will start showing signs of wear, and then wear out, requiring replacement. Suede costs more.

I agree with Yuille36 about areas where not to put it but if you are only replacing A/B/C pillars, headliner, rear deck, and/or trunk and you will be fine with alcantara in those areas...it looks and feels much better than the OEM gray cloth...plus done with right stitching technique will look much better.

To have it really look good...I'd take it to a reputable shop...the stitching is really what makes it look good to me. However, the only one who can truly appreciate it is really me and people who have owned a W211. It is a subtle look that most people miss...I love it and makes the car more luxurious but my wife is totally oblivious to it.

Alcantara in my 2004 E55 (its black but the pics kind of wash the color out and in some pics it may look gray)

Trunk

Headliner/Visor/Roof Handle

Rear portion of healiner (barely see AMG embossed emblem I had put in)

C Pillar

Rear Deck and Head Rest Indentations

A pillar
