Birds Eye Maple
I have seen Birds eye maple on older E55's and was not very impressed. The grain didn't seem to pronounced or have a "deep" look. I don't know if it was because it was an older car or if it is an older type of finish than they now put on the sport. I have seen pictures of the interior of the sport but it's hard to tell how well the wood really looks. I ordered the Sport anyway but was wondering if someone could comment on the quality of the wood in the new EClass Sport?

I hate to say this, but I've seen it on a new car with charcoal interior (not an e... I think it was a CLK-430...) in the showroom... I thought it looked like black plastic. I would have liked a less deeply stained wood...

03 E320, sport package, moon roof, sound upgrade, brilliant silver, charcoal leather, heated seats..
I have the maple with charcoal leather. There have been many passengers in my car and each one thought it looked good. I like it too. A couple of people have said it is a refreshing change from the burl.

I have the birds eye maple with charcoal leather too. i think the two brend in quite nicely with the sport model interior. i personally like it myself. i can also understand why someone would think it looks like plastic because it does a little at the first glance.
at the end of the day, i prefer wood that looks like plastic much more than plastic that looks like wood - like what i have in my jeep.

I have had several clients comment on how nice the wood looks and ask what kind of wood it is. I like the walnut but the black has an elegance to it. I do not think it looks cheap or plastic at all.
I was concerned that I would like it since I have always had walnut or some brown....
I will add that the wood wheel totally finishes the look and makes it a "finished" look. IMHO

I have the Birds Eye Maple wood trim also and am very happy with the choice. I don't think it looks cheap or plasticky. I wanted the black wood after having two cars with walnut trim.
I have an Ash interior like skipper's and there's a nice contrast of colors between the charcoal upper dash, the blacktrim, and the grey interior.
Skipper: For your wood steering wheel, is the leather part of the wheel charcoal colored or Ash to match the interior? It looks charcoal in the picture.

I too have the Birds Eye Maple in my E320 Sport with charcoal interior and I love it. I don't think it looks like black plastic at all. The chrome trim along the top edge really shines.
I like it because its unique. It also makes the interior a lot more austere. Something I expect in a sport version of the car.

pat a, the picutre I posted was yours, however I saw one in my dealers showroom and could have sworn the leather part of the wheel was ash???

Well, the steering wheel was ordered and installed by the dealer - he could have ordered the wrong one. I assumed that the steering wheel for an ash interior was charcoal to match the dashboard. I am happy with the way the charcoal wheel looks in the interior but am very interested to know if the factory is putting an ash wheel on ash interior cars - please let me know.

Got it Enrique, thanks. I think Pat might have been referring to a picture taht was posted several messages earlier in the thread. Appreciate the clarification. And by the way, your car looks great, hope you are enjoying it.

What a difference a camera and/or lighting makes.
The first "gobenz" picture looked like it was a Designo car as I thought that instead of Stone the leather color was white.
After seeing the above picture you can see the beige in the wheel and interior.
My Uncle placed an order for a E320 a few weeks after me and it is the same color combination as yours.
The combination looks great, and the dark wood is a good match to the black exterior.
