Thread is not applicable to 212. Dealer is correct in wanting to check TC providing axle drive & shaft are fine several internal parts have been replaced since vehicle production see attachment. No cost under factory warranty, out of warranty consider having independent check it. If you decide to have dealer perform repair and they claim parts shown were replaced speak with service manager to request MB goodwill assistance given originals must no longer be installed indicating modification.

Konigstiger - Is something that might be covered under the goodwill assistance or any of the bulletins you mentioned? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Can you email me the magic recipe too?
Yikes! That's scary. How many miles on your 2014?

Have dealer check VMI to confirm service campaign 2007100004 is applicable if so, repair is free. If not speak with service manager, reference bulletin 28.50/11 (of which your VIN is with range) to request MBUSA goodwill repair.

Hello Konigstiger,
I finally went to the MB dealer , checked my VMI and they said that my car was not included, but with a help of a friend we were able to perform a DIY and changed the fluid, and the problem is solved.
Do you mind checking for me for the same VIN number (WDBUF87J16X201921) if my car is included for free replacement of the balance shaft?
The check engine came on, I hooked the OBD and threw P0016 , P0017 and i am thinking that if the cam sensors are not dead, the balance shaft would be the issue.

I appreciate your help.

Thank you

Thank you very much,
so I should take it right to MB dealer or I better check the sensors first myself, ?
Another point , does the year affect anything? As mine is 2006 , it is already 12 years old with 92k miles on it!

Year/mileage does not matter inferior parts installed can fail at any time. Independent should offer cost effective repair cost as compared to dealer, DIY check:

When you do the fluid change for TC, over-filling 50-100ml more fluid is always a good idea, because there are some friction discs (sorry I don’t know the exact name) on the upper potion.
just my 2 cents.

Transfer case issue for 2013 GLK 350

Hello Konigstiger,

I have Merc 2013 GLK 350 and I do experience the sounds while I take turns and the dealer says vehicle have problem with transfer case and it cant be replaced independently and it should be done with transmission. My vehicle is out of warranty last april and it has 30,000 miles on it. Dealer had quoted 10,500$ to replace the transmission and asked to me to check with Mercedes USA if they can help me with that.

My Vin number is WDCGG8JB3DG080104 and I saw there is technical bulletin for this Mercedes-Benz TSB LI28.00-P-05149(https://www.tsbsearch.com/Mercedes-B...28-00-P-051499) which is related to my problem. I just wanted to check if there is any service campaign that is applicable to my model of car for replacing the transmission free of cost?

Not aware of service campaign or recall, here is a copy of bulletin. Shop for an independent with MB Xentry (diagnostics) willing to service transfer case. Most common problem planet carrier, current part # 2212708604.

Thanks Konigstiger for sharing the information, . Sorry for asking naive question, In the bulletin it says "Veh. with transmission model 722.96x with transmission sequence number between 4.720.000 and 4.787.465" I see from your attachment tranmission number is 72296004703609. I would like to know what is sequence number and whether it falls between those numbers? Is this bulleting applicable for this tranmission?

You seem to be knowledgeable guy here, Do you know by any chance if there is independent MB shop in North New Jersey?

Dealer will should be able to confirm if bulletin is applicable to your VIN. If SA stumbles, request to have shop foreman check. Submit new post for independent referral across 211, 212, 213, 221, and 222 forums hopefully fellow Jersey members will offer advice.

THERE MUST BE SOME OTHER ISSUE AFFECTING THE TRANSFER CASE.

The orignal TC was fine for over 120k km... but ever since I have had issues, despite replacing it twice as mentioned above.

Anyone here was able to resolve this matter PERMENANTLY?

Konigstiger, do you have any idea why it is not resolved?

P.S.: Would also like to add that MB has extended goodwill offer and for all the transfer case oil changes the 2 transfer case replacements I only incurred $500 in losses. But extended TC warranty ends next year and I would like to get to the bottom of it before that.
Maybe driveline and new u-joints are needed from so much vibrations.

No known problems with the 2003/2004 transfer case OR too old for MB to give a damn?

Curious minds in Florida with a 2004 E-500 4-Matic would like to know..
I am currently dealing with this issue on my 2004 with 100K miles. Always been serviced at Mercedes and high end German specialist shops. I live in Canada and they basically told me to bad so sad. Is $8000 CAN. I’m pretty disappointed in this happening so I’m currently trying to search for used one hopefully with low miles.. but it’s hard to find info on this. I have always kept up on every service and replaced any components as soon as i felt an issue. This is definitely disappointing to say the least considering the transfer case cost is almost worth more then the whole car value.

Used transfer cases are extremely cheap on car-part.com (where junkyards list their car parts). I would recommend going to a smaller shop (with a high rating) that's willing to put in used parts. Transfer case replacement is semi-straightforward and doesn't require someone that exclusively works on German cars, and a smaller shop is more likely to be fine with installing a used transfer case - or even willing to rebuild it.
