Airmatic questions

Hi,

I own a 2007 Advantgarde W211 with airmatic, and just wondering if planning to put on 20s wheels on, how low can the factory airmatic perform, does anyone ever have any experience with this?

Does the car will still look hanging if we only counting on the original airmatic (even if we set to the lowest/sport mode)?

Perhaps anyone care to share some pics of their car using 20s and only lowered with the factory airmatics?

If so, what is the other option? Coilovers?

Thank you guys..

if you have airmatic then you dont have springs so nothing like eibach or H&R etc.
You actually have airbags.
HAve you got adjustable ride height and damper in the car ? 2 buttons.

Thank you, I actually just learned that by doing little research just now.. and yes I do have the the button for changing the mode into "sport mode" etc.
but I was just wondering if I put on the 20s, how low would it get just by sticking to the original factory airmatic lowered to max and not getting any lowering module..

anyone has any pic instead?

The factory airmatic will actually go quite low.
I lowered my car on 19s so dont have any before shots with the 20s on there now but i can dig up some on the old 19s if you like. I think for someone that doesnt really need a baller look you may be fine, certainly was with 19s for me, but i had already bought the links.

Hi aintez,

thank you. Just out of the curiousity, when you were putting in your new wheels (say 19" or 20"), did you have the car airmatic to be set as comfort, sport 1, or sport 2.

Will this be effecting anything? Say if we set the airmatic to be sport 2, and turned of the engine, and have the original wheels replaced by the 19/20 inch wheel we have, can we gain more lower in anyhow?

the airmatic only raises the car, and then lowers it to stock height. the sport 1 n 2 buttons are the dampers, they only control how tight the suspension is. not the ride height.

Thank you.. so, the proper way for when I plan to change the car's wheel from stock 17" into 20",

1. Should I have the car airmatic set to stock height, then turn off the engine, and replace the 17" with new 20" wheels.

OR

2. Should I have the car's airmatic set to the highest, then turn off the engine, and replace the 17" with new 20" wheels.

Could anyone tell me which is the propoer way to do this.

Thank you.

Doesnt matter what the setting was on, basically you have a height adjustment you have normal and high. then you have a stiffness adjustment but in adjusting the stiffness it also changes height slightly.

So the lowest the car will sit is on sport 2 and normal height(not raised), which is what these shots are.

Your car will raises and lowers based on movement in suspension, not from actual height from the ground. Also it will self adjust later on so it doesnt matter the sequence, you will always get the same result.

this pic is badass. i just picked up a brand new W212 E550 and I want to start messing with the airmatic because i'm putting 20" HRE's on the car. i was thinking of purchasing the brabus module but i don't know how low it's going to drop my car. if it were to drop it as low as yours, i'd hop on the brabus. but you have custom made end links? is it worth buying the brabus module?

I don't think any of the ELMs will tuck the wheels that far. Links are probably a better bet for you. Personally, I don't need it that low so ELMs are great as they work with the OEM system. I've noticed very little ride quality degradation with my 20s/Renntech ELM.
