18" rims for E500, can any pros help me out?
Well, my dad has agreed to let me choose some nice rims for his E500 for the summer.
I dont want him suffering from poor ride quality ... too much, so i think i'l only get 18" rims for him.
He is aware that he will still lose a little ride quality, and hes fine with that.
My dad does not speed, and does not need traction greater than what comes stock with his E500. (no sport package)
What is the most profile i can have with 19" rims and what is the most profile i can have with 18" rims, both with respect to RIDE COMFORT while keeping the overall diameter the same?
So what im really looking for is tire sizes that will give you the best ride quality in both 18" and 19" applications.
I only ask that the width of the tire does not go lower than stock.
Also, what is the most COMFORTABLE and QUIET summer tire you recommend?
I like Toyos and SO'3's myself, though i have not had a ride in anything other than these two so i do not know if a tire that offers more comfort exists or not.
Thankyou
EDIT: I also need lots of profile because Toronto Roads are full of potholes

also if someone can give me the specs for rims that will fit the E500 (non sport) in both 18" and 19" applications, i will be grateful.
- Width of rim, (front and rear)
- Bolt Patterns
- Offset ranges (front and rear)
i would like to avoid rolling fenders as much as possible.

Brabus recommends the following sizes:
18x8.5 offset 30 245/40
18x9.5 offset 35 265 or 275/35
19x8.5 offset 29 245/35
19x9.5 offset 35 275 or 285/30
As for tires, I loved driving on Yoko AVS-sports. they were the quietest most comfortable tire i have ever used.
Out of P7000, SS SP9000, Yokohama Parada, and the AVS-sport i would choose the AVS.

Here's a site that gives you a quick comparison of overall diameter affect on speedo and has some additional tire dimension comparisons. Don't be mislead by the url, it works for all sizes. I have found it helpful.

thankyou very much.
yes i have used that miata site before as well. i had just lost the URL.
thankyou again
does anybody have the bolt patterns as well as the offset ranges? and width?
what if i go with higher/lower offsets what will rub and what wont?
is there anyway i can go with a 225/45 or 255/40 in the front so i can get more profile? the rear seems fine with 275/35

Hi amir, I think you're better off with 20 inch but i dont' know if you need to roll your vendor or not? on my E500 i use 19 inch but it still look kinda small. For driving part, i still feel comfortable though is not much different(I didn't lower my car). but there's a gap on the front wheel. here's the look of my car...

i have just bought the Oringinal AMG Styling IV rims for my mom (the ones for E55). The tires are on order, as soon as i have them put on the car. I will post some pics
they are in 8x18 and 9x18
245/40 ZR 18 and 265/35 ZR 18 Dunlop SP9000
well the BEST tires right now on the Market should be the NEW bridgestone RE-050. But they will only be available in June......

Don't go with 18 inch wheels. You will regret not getting 19 or 20. I have 19's (275/30 r and 245/35 f ) with SO3s and the ride still very good and sticks even better on corners, just don't ram into a curb or into a giant pothole:p :p :p

hi tla, i have question for you.... do you need to roll the vendor by using 275 wheel on the back? Do you have pic of your car? I was using 245/35 for both. I felt that when i make a u turn it hit the vendor... or is it just my feeling?

sf49ers79 19x9.5 (275/30) in the rear does not rub on my car and I don't have the fenders rolled. If your rims hit the fender on turns then you might have the wrong offset. Here's a link with pics of my car: http://www.thewheelsupply.com/showca...vehicle_id=103

thanks guys, but i tried to make it clear that im not looking for better cornering, and that i want to avoid potholes damaging the rims.
If it was my car, i would be on dubs, but its my dads so we just wanna go a bit bigger without sacrificing ride quality and we dont want to bend any rims.
Ride quality may still be good for you guys, but for my dad he wants a smooth ride, and doesnt want to sacrifice too much of it.
So i thought i would go with 19's with lots of profile if i can, or just some 18's.

I recently installed my 18x8.5 AMG rims w/245/40's and was almost shocked at how smooth the ride was. The only difference in "feel" was a slightly higher effort in steering - which I like.
18's look just fine. 19's would be better looking but my car is a daily driver and I don't want to have to compromise my rather agressive driving style :p

thank you everyone
i think i will go with mike82y and Lig's recomendations and go with a nice 18" rim
i wish the stock rims (both non sport and sport) came in 18" i would be all over those.

I have 18" AMG 211 wheels. They work great. You will lose grip, not gain it, by going to 19's. They are also heavier and more susceptiple to damage. I have 18x8 and 18x9 with S03's 245/40 front and 275/35 rear. They are louder than stock, but not intrusively so. I think Dunlop 9000 might be a little bit quiter but had them on my 210 model so it's tough to say.

Does ur father has airmatic on his E500? I have talked to my dealer today, if the car has comfort suspensions like my moms. there is a small part of plastic in the suspension that has to be changed in oder to fit the 18" on to the front axel.
the part costs around 13 Euro each.
I am gonna drive to the dealer 2morrow and ask for details, i will also post more pics 2morrow
