MP3s on a DVD in the COMAND IDC on facelift 07 W211

Can I just burn mp3's onto a DVD and they'll play in a 2007 W211 bluetec? I won't have an ipod cable at first, so I'm hoping I can stock the in dash changer with DVDs loaded with my music in MP3 format.

I've searched, and it looks like the firmware that shipped with 07 models should be capable, but I'd like to hear personal experiences.

Thanks!

I've burned MP3s to regular CDs, and play them in the single slot & the changer. The way each displays & handles the songs & folders is different.

When you insert the CD for the 1st time it takes much longer for the CD to load & play than a regular burn with say, 20 songs on it.

Is that drive capable of loading DVDs though?

The possibility will depend on which comand unit you have. On the Euro comand (the one with DVD playback - has a dedicated "video" buttom) burned DVD and/or CD MP3 discs and even Dual layer DVD's will be playable. THe latter will even be on the 2003 model year provided the software is/was upgraded. The dual layer DVD can therefore provide significant number of songs (with more than 8 Gb of data surely it will take months before you have to eject the DVD) and is best properly organised in folders. I have read somewhere (although not sure whether it is true) only the first 256 songs in each folder will be played and viewable. Text of the song is displayed and you can browse by folder.

It'll definitely be a US Spec car.. that's a shame. I can understand prohibiting video in the front seat, but to deny a DVD player is pretty lame. I was hoping to avoid paying for the ipod cable (or alternative) by just having 26GBs of music in the CD changer.

Now a 2007 E350 4matic
I have an 07 E350 - the 6 CD changer will not play mp3's, even if burned to a CD. only the single slot above the screen will play mp3's

just connect your ipod headphone jack into the aux input in the glove box (Radio shack cable) (or reroute the cable to the console).. your ipod won't charge, and you won't be able to see the songs on your display.. but you will be able to listen to it.

I burned MP3 music on CD, it play on my 08 E350 (US model) with no problem, have not try to burn the music on DVD yet, so I can not confirm. Never use the iPod cable in the glove box yet, the 6 slot CD with MP3 had a thousand songs on it (it also display the song title in the dash), beside, my iPod is crashed (I think it need a new HD). I am happy with the CD changer with the ability to play MP3 music (or audiobook), I believe the 07 E350 (facelift) has the same electronic as 08 E350. 09 E350 is changed to HD Navi (rather than DVD Navi on 07 & 08).
