I stopped by my dealer (Stead Motors) to inquire about a software update. They are not aware of any yet.

The question now is, has anyone had luck yet in getting an upgrade to software installed bye the dealor to fix this problem in the first bulit 03 E's so THEY can scroll the presets instead of the Freqs.?
Sorry but mine is an april product and i have the same problem.

My E500 is a Jan 03 build and Feb 28, 03 delivery. I haven't had it in the shop for anything (knock on wood )

I just went out to my car, turned on the ignition, pressed the steering wheel page button to the audio section, had the FM station playing, and then hit the up and down arrows.

Results?..... it scrolled through my "preset" stations, i.e., NOT freq's.

I Drove a March 03 bulit E320 and it did NOT have the ability to scan the PRESETS from the sterlng wheel, only the Freq,s.

It also has the same speaker glitch in the Logig 7 mode that I reported in another thred.

Just a thought - Could it be that, depending on where you live, that the incremental frequencies just happen to "match" the presets you have chosen? Here in the Chicago area there are way too many stations for that to happen, but in a city with only 8-15 radio stations, who knows??

STKLAW - I'm am in no way questioning your ability to scroll - I am totally jealous if you have this function! Just tossing out an idea.

some help

I dont know if this would help but i will give it a shot. ok well on my car (00' CLK 320) i know i can change if i want to scroll from presets or scan the stations from my wheel. To change this you must have the car in park and then go into your on board computer. from here you have to find the settings page and scroll through it until you get the radio part. then in there you can select either scrolling with presets or scanning stations. well i dont know if that helps but just a thought. i cant say if its the same controls as my car but i was just trying to help.

I suppose that's possible. When the car was delivered we set the presets somehow by allowing the radio to pick the strongest channels. But when I hit the arrow it goes directly to that preset channell rather than surfing through other stuff.

I just got my car today 6/3/03 and it doesn't scroll presets.........just the next station - up or down. The dealer told me that the earlier '03s did scroll presets and seemed to think it was an either/or function of the software and thus it was decided that we now scroll in search/scan mode. But remember, it's a computer and with software updates, anything is possible

Mine's pretty early (9/02 production, fifth car to the dealer)--no preset scroll. The C320 did have the option to select which, this does not. I'm in an area where the presets just about ARE the stations, so it's not a big issue, nor is using the panel buttons which I do most of the time. On the C320, I used the steering wheel out of town for the general scan--used the panel for local. It just worked well for me that way.

I'll be fixing about this question tomorrow.

My car is April build and I have the problem too. I take it to the garage today, and my dealer says me first it is an option and I have to change settings. I tell him to show me and he doesn't find the "option" but he promised me to fix it by software upgrade. The car is there until tomorrow, I'll see.

this is an important feature, MB must know about this, what are they doing? I'm glad people are posting about this, I'm going to wait for the 2004s just because of this, this is a key feature that I would use everyday.

Mark, consider this post if yo havent seen it by Bundy

My guess is that the person who thinks the wheel scroll does work used the auto preset tuning function and lives in an area with limited radio stations. THis would set all of the presets in order from lowest to highest frequency. When he "scrolls" he's actually seeking the next strong station but since it is in memory from the auto-tune, it looks like its scrolling presets.

Just a theory.

I did consider Bundy's suggestion and I went and tested again. Yes, my area has lot's of stations. But when I scroll through the presets, it's making jumps like 94.1, 99.9, 104.1, 107.3 etc. There are stations inbetween my presets. To top it off, each preset is also displayed with the assigned preset number, e.g., 94.1 is my first station and would have "FM1" displayed...... 107.3 has "FM8" displayed, etc.

So, this confirms I'm scrolling "Presets". Mark

It is obvious that an error was made on your car as most of the rest of us don't have that feature. I think you should turn yourself in to a MB Dealer and have then screw yours up like the rest of us....

Ed

edit: I assume that everyone is talking about the HK system and not some with the basic and some with the HK????

Then, I get my car today, and the answer is NO, there is no way to change this settings for the nav system (I have the nav), but for the APS 50, apparently no problem, it exists a solution by software upgrade or something like that.

Would you be willing to try one more test which involves resetting all of you presets?

After the test you would have to reset all of your presets to your current preset stations.

If you would like to take the time to try, then I will post a step by step test I would like for you to try. ??????

Hey Mark, Whats happening man?

Regarding "the test"

1. using SEEK - find the lowest FM Freq either audio or static (87.7 on my tuner) then enter that into the #1 PRESET, as you know you will hear the tone when the preset "takes" and FM1 will be displayed in the lower left corner of the dispaly.

2. Using SEEK+ advance to the very next audio station, ONE PUSH, enter into #2 PRESET.

3. Repeat the above steps until you have all 10 in the presets.
Its very important to ONLY SEEK to the next Freq. after you have put the previous one in its PRESET. (One Push of SEEK +)

4. After all 10 stations are in the PRESETs, go to the steering wheel and try scrollng.

5. This is the Main objective...When your scrolling on the steering wheel, watch the presets numbers, FM1,FM2 ect, on the lower left corner of the display. When you get to FM0, press the same arrow on the wheel that your using and push it ONE MORE TIME.

What shows up on the display....FM1 or is it BLANK AND you are recieving another radio station?

Mike

as i said it isnt able to be done. those arent YOUR presets , they are the strongest stations that you have set into the presets . you cannot program YOUR presets, only from seek, i want to set my favorite stations not the seek stations............

That's right they are the strongest stations the way he did it. I agree with you.
