Questions On E350
Hey guys I am looking at buying a 06-07 E350 4Matic sedan for the wife. From what I am reading the 4Matics do not have the 7 speed transmission because of the space. Is this true on the 06 and 07’s?
Also would you suggest a 06 over a 07? I know the 06 were the first year for the E350. So was not sure if there were bugs that got worked out and the 07’s are better.
Any specific options for the car you think are a must? I do want Nav and will have to check if Xenon lights are standard.
I am also kicking around the idea of an E60 530XI. I have owned AMG’s and M5/M3’s and each does something a bit better than the other. The handling seems to be better on the BMW but the styling on the MB IMO inside and out is much better.
I also noticed the E350 4 Matic is about 400 pounds heavier than the 530XI. Any reason why?
Thanks

The 07s are a vastly improved car over all the previous years of the 211. Go with an 07. My 07 is the best car I ever owned since 1970 when I started buying new cars every 2-4 years. (I had an 04 E also)

I will be looking for an 07 or 08 now. Now that I have seen one with a sport package it is hard to consider non sport.
I did some more looking and even in the 07's the trans is still 5 speed on the 4Matics
Does this look like a good list for available options on the 07?
2007 E-Class Packages
designo Espresso Edition - $6,400
designo Graphite Edition - $6,400
Sport Package - $0
P1 Package - $2,390
P2 Package - $4,290
2007 E-Class Options Parktronic - $1,110
Split Folding Rear Seats - $310
Wood/Leather Steering Wheel - $540
Rear Side Blinds - $340
Panorama Sunroof - $1,000
Electric Trunk Closer - $520
Keyless Go - $1,080
Leather Upholstery - $1,540
Metallic Paint - $700
Standard Paint Type – $0
17" Chrome Wheel - $1,200

I agree with Barry and get a 2007+
The options look about right - but most are interested in the Premium 1 or 2 package that they include. Almost all cars you find will be Premium 1, which includes things you expect but not things you probably want. It will include Nav, phone wiring, Sirius, heated seats, CD changer, rear sunshade and probably a few other things. Premium 2 will get you Keyless-Go, and Xenon lights with active curve. Electronic Trunk Closer is something you may want on top of this; pano roof, and spit folding rear seats are nice options too.
So look for a Premium 2 car to get the Xenon lights you request.

If you have to sacrifice anything, make it anything other than P2. It contains things that a luxury car at this original price level should have had from the get go, and buying it used, you're paying a fraction of the cost of the original package cost. The car will have among other things, an adequate in dash NAV, LED Tail lights, and those out of this world Bi Xenon Active (turning) headlights among other small things.
Good decision on the 07>. There is virtually no difference between the 07 & the 08s. (Different wheel hub trim & Hood Ornament trim, different headlight switch... Thats about all. So choose by content... Keyless go is nice too.

This really helps. 07 and P2 a must
Figures I just found a sport private sale with P2 and it has an acccident listed. The guy that owns it says he can not see anywhere that the car was repaired. All carfax has it listed as 1 accident front end collision.
I will keep looking

So I have tentatively worked out a deal on a 2007 E350. It has HC sound system, Nav and Rear Sun Shade. I think that is about it for options.
The car has 40k on it and factory warranty runs out this month. It is at a non Benz dealer. It is a one owner no accidents and looks to be in great cond. They said they would do $24,900 and 2/24 bumper to bumper warranty. Warranty is from Honda Corp.
I am going to tell them if they do $24,500 and 3/36 warranty I will take it. Does that sound like a decent deal? I read through the warranty and it is Non Comp so it does cover everything expect wear and tear. I am figuring a 3rd party warranty is going to cost be at least 2K.
I really wanted the car to have xenon but it does not. I took a quick look at the sticky for HID's and it seems to be a lot of work. Are there any HID kits that work on these cars and truly plug and play without having to buy the kit and then separate cap's to stop the flickering?

Don't take a stripper model... Which the one above sounds like. You will regret it in the long run. It is definitely worth waiting for the right car with right equipment.
Just think, every time the headlights come on, you will think of what you could have had if you waited a little longer or looked a little harder. There are so many E's out there, I can't imagine there isn't a better fit just around the corner.
I looked for about 2 months before I found my car. It was worth the wait. I wouldn't consider anything without P2 and trunk closer.

I agree the car is for the wife but I agree with thinking what if. I just think it will be tough to find a 2007 with 40k miles with 3/36k extended warranty for $24,500 The ones with P2 seem to be going for asking price high 20's with no extended warranty. I was just viewing this one as a possible good deal.
Having a hard time justifying another $3-4k for one with xenon.
Maybe I should just wait and see what I come accross. Just not sure I will beat one for $24,500 with a additional 3/36k warranty. Thoughts?
Also how can you tell if the car has hands free comm for nav? I guess voice req do you do not need to type/enter in address.

I think the E Class has become the most ubiquitous car in the universe.

That looks like a nice price. Whatever you do make sure you get the warranty.

I didn't think the Bi-Xenons were all that when I bought my CLK, so I didn't get them (passed on a black one that had them, actually, and I didn't even give that car any points for that). Then I got my wife the E350 with the Bi-Xenons, and I see what I'm missing every night. They're awesome! Where in NH are you? My Car broker gets them at auction, and like Barry said, the lease cars (mostly 07's now) are getting turned in daily. There's a big Mercedes Financial sale here in Mass every month, and it's coming up.
PS. I got the only 07 with Keyless Go that was at my auction, last month, and that's a very cool option as well. That and Bluetooth, and your wife never has to stop and open her purse when she approaches the car, gets in, and drives off. Very cool, and safe.

I never knew that about the '08's getting new pieces there. Anyone have pics of each? I especially never noticed a difference in the hood ornament trims?

On the 08s the center hubs have blue wreaths, instead of shiny & flat silver wheel hubs and around the base of the hood ornament there is the blue wreath, not a plain shiny silver base. Look Here for the differences: http://www.centercaps.net/search/mod...getCap=Get+Cap
