Looking at a high mileage '07 E550

Hello all. Looking at getting back into a MB. I've recently turned in my SLK350 and miss having a Benz. I've sourced a local '07 model with 66,xxx miles. The price is right and it's loaded. From what I have researched the NA 550 motor is solid. I just want to try and get peoples experience who have higher mileage 550's. Here's the link to the car:

Thanks for checking it out fellas and I look forward to being back in the club!

Good price, good car but it's not "loaded". It doesn't have a panoramic roof, bi-xenon headlights, corning lights, keyless start, fold down rear seat, 4Matic (?), parktronic etc. It's a standard dealer ordered E550 Sport with the optional P1 package. Sorry-

Agree it's not loaded. But it's got the options I need. I like the bluetooth, ipod interface that would cost a pretty penny at the dealer to have installed.

Joe, the options you need vs. the options you should have.

I do have a fully loaded E550 except for parktronic and voice control.

Pano roof = LOVE IT
Keyless go = Will never buy a car without it
Electronic Trunk = Thought this was a gimmick, but now that I have it, I love it and use it.
Bi-Xenon Headlights = I can never go back to regular headlights again. The extra level of safety you will get from having these is worth the cost of the P2 package itself.
Parktronic = don't care, didn't want bullet holes in my bumpers
Voice Control = don't care.

If you can get a E550 w/ P2 just to get Bi-Xenon's I recommend it. Every car I drive without Xenon's now I feel have poor headlights. If Bi-Xenon's are indexed at 100, the headlights on my 1995 4Runner are 20. Not joking. Its a night/day difference and since you're looking for a car thats 2-3 yrs old, at this point those add-ons which were expensive for new car buyers, can't command that much of a premium.

P2 when new? Great if you can swing it. P2 when used? Look far and wide for it. The upcharge when used is not big enough not to have it IMHO. Most of the stuff in it should be standard anyway.

I had parking Aid in my '04. I found it was not sounding an alarm until you were very close to an obect. (A careful driver would be on alert sooner than the warning from the Park Aid.. If you didn't see an obect at all, that is another story.

When I got rid of my '04, I didn't order it in my new car, because it was too expensive for its usefullness for me. GM Parking Aid is much better than this system with an alarm that starts beeping as you approach an obect while the car is farther away from it than the MB system. The front radar is useless because again, you will be more leery than the Park Aid. Any damage to your nose will be done by the dude in front of you when he leaves and you're in the store buying Leather Conditioner.

There's no letter GHI" "KL on this damn Laptop.

I second the opinion on looking for a car with P2. Very expensive when optioned on a new car but the difference on a high mileage used car will be negligible. Be careful when using the word need. None of us "need" a Mercedes to drive around...

Take a test drive and make sure shifting through all gears is super smooth. Look out for any wheel alignment issue -- if car is pulling to left or right at hwy speed. Take it to a MB dealer shop for inspection. A few big ticket items to look out for (ask the tech to specifically look out for these): oil leaks in valve covers and rear main seal, oil leaks in the airmatic suspension system (front and rear), check out the ball joints & control arms. Needs transmission service if that had not been done at 50k mi.
