Lights out on low beam only

Dealer said both modulars and ignition modulars are out. High beam still works fine. They said $2066 plus tax to fix and still might need bulbs.

My question is this: Is there anyway around this, can I go with regular headlights or any other tips would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Both modules out at the same time !? That seems highly unlikely to me.

Did you check the fuses and relay !

Interesting that they both died at the same time. What year is your car? It would help if you put your vehicle information in your user CP that way we know what you're talking about.

Seems like the dealer might be taking advantage of the situation. I would check out fuses and relays like starbrite suggested. It is almost impossible that they would die at the same time.

Sure you can, but why would you ?

BTW, the more I think about this, the ignitor modules/ballast can't be out because all the low beams are is a "shutter" coming down and partially covering the beam. In other words, the high beam bulb is the low beam as well.

So, the control unit for that shutter(s) is most likely the culprit.

Starbright

Do I tell the dealership this, what is your advice? The reason I would want to change back is because of the price

Based on their first quote, I would take it to another dealer ( if there'e one within a reasonable distance) and tell them. ( I have 4 dealers within 10 mi of my house)

Wow. These are expensive parts. Maybe you could buy the parts and install them yourself. Call other dealers' parts department for the price on these parts, and the service dept for pars & labor.

If I remember correctly from my 06 E500, it had xenon but not bi-xenon. When activating high beams, instead of there being a shutter changing the angle of the low beam, the inner city lights had a high beam bulb and those lit. So high beams were regular xenon low beam with an additional halogen bulb. In this case his high beams could work with lowbeams being fried.

Good point Trey. The op doesn't mention which they are. I, based on the price he was quoted, assumed they were bi.
