2007 E550 Caliper bolt size?
I am attempting to change my front brake pads on an '07 E550 with 4matic. I have the caliper type that must be removed from the rotor in order to get to the pads. The two bolts appear to be allen keys size 9 mm. Has anoyone come accross this? I guess I am going to the hardware store to look for a 9 mm allen key. The set I have goes in increments of 2 unfortunately.

Ok, I ended up going to home depot and buying a 9mm allen key. It took a little elbow greese to actually get the caliper off of the rotor. Wtih old pad sill in caliper, I used a C-clamp to compress the piston. I take out the new pads and am ready to go. To my horror, they are the wrong size. The parts guy thought I said E350 instead of E550. Ok, took the pads back on Monday and started all over again. Everything seemed to work ok, but after putting new sensor on, I am still getting the <<Breakpad Wear>> message.

Would have been better to get an allen driver socket. Works with a torque wrench and you can sure get more leverage on one for screw removal.

I coudln't find one that size. Mabye it was because I was rushing to try to finish the brake job in a hurry. The only metric set I saw was at Autozone, but it was a 12 mm, 14 mm, and 16mm. I'll go now that I am not in a rush and ask one of the employees at Home depot and Lowes.

I would like to say that write up on the '06 E350 brake job was top notch. Very nicely done.

Getting something online is for people who actually plan to do things. I am so unorganized. I decided on a Friday that I would do my brakes on the next day. It was too late to order the parts on line, so I just went to MB of West Chester and purchased all the parts from them.

I haven't given any thought to the rear brakes. Could I test it by connecting a new rear sensor and then see if the alarm goes off? I will search more threads to see if it is based on a closed or open circuit for it being good. If that causes the warning to go out, then I know I need to change the rear brakes as well.

FYI, I finally got around to doing my rear brake pads. They didn't use the 9mm allen key but rather a torx bit. I forget the size. They came off much easier than the fronts. Replaced pads and sensor and the warning went away instantly.
