One of my catalytic converters is making a rattling/ticking sound. The dealer is looking for over $2,200 to replace the bad convertor and I'd rather not give my money to the them.
Where can I buy a replacement converter for my 2003 E320? My independent mechanic is having trouble finding a quality replacement for the car. I'm not looking for low-flow or high performance, just a good replacement converter.

how many miles
on the car?
under 80k you are covered
if not which cat?
magnaflow makes 49state universal cats
You can get a complete stainless pipe to end with both pre and post cat unit for under $500.

I have over 250,000 miles on my car so no warranty repair for me. I figured that with that many miles, I would replace both cats if the price was reasonable. At least more reasonable than $2,200 each.
I intend to keep the car a few more years and would prefer to use an OEM cat instead of a universal.
