Since I can not find the car I want, I will order ( E500 sport, fully loaded, save cell phone).

These colors look very different in different light sources. Any comments/suggestions appreciated. Charcoal interior..

Brav, both are nice colors. Tectite to me is more formal and Pewter on the sporty side.

Between the 2 choices, my preference will be for Tectite and Ash interior, but again it depends on what catches your fancy. Originally Pewter was my first choice, but had a personal issue on matching interior trim.

Nice car, pat a.

If you can shoot a couple more photos of your car under the sun, Brav can get a better perspective of what Tectite will look in daylight condition.

Ctouhey has pewter/charcoal (search the forum, esp the pic thread), and I have pewter/ash.

take a look around to see the various colors. I think I've seen 1 tectite W211 in NYC in the past few months. I'm starting to see more 211s around, but most are the MB-standard brilliant silver or black.

thank you Pat A.

benggolf, thanks for your suggestion
a sun shot would be great(tly appreciated). I am young, so the "sportier" side appeals, as I will be adding the AMG kit. pewter might accent the beautiful curves a bit better than tectite. Thanks

Brav,

I got the Tectitie in my '03 E320, wanted to have a different color than my wife's pewter '99 E320W...and didn't want the typical brilliant silver or black. Having had the tectite car for about 2 mos, and with a pewter to compare it to, the tectite is a better looking color, however, i've got to wash it constantly (sometimes more than 1x a week) as it shows road dirt, dust, pollen, etc. so much more than the pewter colored wagon.

So imho, if you don't mind the extra cleaning needs, the tectite is a great color that subtly changes with outside light conditions...the pewter, imho, is a bit "dull".

pmcary -Thanks for the advice- I saw tectite on the showroom, but not in bright sunlight. You're right, pewter does seem dull at times. I like lighter colors, but silver (and black) are way too common as you metioned. Have any pics of your car in sunlight? Thanks.

Pmcary, I'm sure that the Pewter colour was first released on the W211 E Class in 2002 so I would be surprised if your wife's car is that colour if it's a '99 W210.

Brav, check out my new car picture thread for pictures of Pewter with a Stone interior.

Callaway...well, you certainly made me scratch my head...so went out to the wife's glovebox, pulled out the 'sticker' and sure enough, I rememebered incorrectly...her wagon's color is "Desert Silver Metallic".

Brav...I apologize for giving you the wrong advice...I really thought "Pewter" was the way her silver was described. Also, to your request for pics of my tectite in the sunlight...don't have any digitized, but if you don't see what you need from Callaway's thread, let me know and I'll get my kodak's scanned.

Patrick,

Do you think Tectite needs washing as much as a black or obsidian black car?

Callaway...thanks for the understanding mi amigo...

STKLAW...good question...my sense is probably about same as the true blacks...am thinking of mental comparison to my in-laws obsidian '01 S500...what i think it comes down to in terms of difference between the two is really dust/roaddust & pollen...i think that the true blacks show it a bit sooner, esp in sun light, whereas i think it takes a "thicker coat" of dust/pollen on the tectitie to show in the sunlight... now, does that mean more washing for the truer blacks? imho, no... thinking of the trick that livery/sedan drivers in NYC do with their black sedans, that being in their downtime on the curb, they whip out a duster and do a quick once over...probably will employ that trick a couple times in between the weekend full wash routine. Not sure if my answer helps, but really don't have the side by side personal comparison like we have w/the desert silver v tectite.

I just sold an obsidian black 98 E430 and when it got dusty (once or twice a week) I just used McGuire's "Quick detail". I fo
und that if I dusted it I made swirl marks and needed to polish it more. I don't think I will have a problem with tectite. I generally kept my obsidian black dust free (at least to the glance). I'm about to pee in my pants waiting for mine. Could be as much as 2 more weeks. It hits the dock in Baltimore on April 30, then customs then a truck to KC.

Previous post of my E320 in Pewter with pictures.

I really like the color. I was looking for something that would blend in a little. I have only seen one other car in Pewter.

The color cleans up nice and it looks great with the block interior.

By the way, my E320 now has over 6,000 miles on it and I have been able to get more than 30mpg at constant highway speed. I took it on a 700 mile week end trip with the family and love the ride.
