Defroster Vent flap stuck open on passenger side
My passenger side defroster is stuck open. I can control temperature. In manual mode, I cannot control the direction of air flow. There is always air coming out of defroster (windshield positon). I can control direction of air flow for driver side. When I turn the knob to control the air flow direction, I do not hear flap moving. I did a search but cannot find anything. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

My weekend toy, a mildly modded E55 AMG 211 chassis has just developed the same issue. Mildly frustrating is an understatement. Before taking it to the shop, thought I'd get back on here and see if there are any posts with the same issue...
Afraid it may become an 'involved' fix that will required my dash to be removed - which only scares me b/c I might get some "Creeking" sounds after the fix, which would drive me so crazy that I would want to get rid of the car. Bad experience with my 535 having slight creeking sounds after a dash repair.
Every find out the isssue and what it took to repair it? Any info would be helpful.
Thx - Jay
Plutoe and Konigstiger had good info there. Dash removal required and actuator required to fix. If I had to do it again I'd get a replacement actuator for 10 bucks or so first before letting the shop help me out for $150, presuming you are not going to be tearing your own dash out.

I attached the instruction to perform this job, this is for the passenger defroster, right is same process.

I have read just about every thread on this issue and am planning to tackle mine shortly.
It seems the problem is often not caused by a failed actuator, but by a stop breaking off the heater case, which prevents the calibration of the vent position.
Was your a bad motor, or broken stop?
THANKS.
