Fuel Gauge / Range Indicator Problems

Hello All,
I have been noticing that my fuel indicator, sometimes, drops from, (eg.) 8 bars to none, then goes up 3-4 bars...this keeps happening.
My range display also indicates (eg.) 100 miles, then dash-dash-dash. Then it will indicate and again display dashes..
Sometimes Reserve Fuel and the light pops up and goes off....

What could this be due to please? Its quite unnerving to be stuck in heavy traffic on an over bridge with the car saying 0 Miles and no fuel!!

I had a 2007 E350 that had a full tank of gas, but after 5 minuted of driving the fuel guage would drop to 3/4 full.

The problem on mine was the fuel lever sender and the dealer replaced the fuel tank because of the fuel level sender/fuel pump is sealed.

Hi all,
Ok, the problem is back after a brief hiatus.

The 'bay has a pair of fuel level senders for sale. Is this what i should be looking at getting?

Merry Christmas and a Happy , Healthy, Non-Breakdown New Year to all and our gorgeous Mercs!

Most likely cause is faulty fuel level senders. Sometimes it can be verified by a stored code in the rear SAM.

having a similar prob with the reading varying about 15-20% of real level. drops a lot at the start of a run then goes back to the original level when started again. Another issue i have is that it top out at the pump when the guage is only reading 3/4 tank???? cannot get a full tank...is this a common thing in a face lift 210??

Mine just did this last night.... It's never happened before. I stopped and bought some gas. Left the station, and 12 miles later, the indicator goes blank. I'm stopped on the side of road looking under the car thinking something punctured the tank. But then I realized that nothing was punctured.

I was about to create a thread asking this VERY question.

Now the question is, can the indicator be reset? Of does it simply have to be replaced? And are we talking about replacing the entire fuel sending unit?

That sounds costly??

Anybody done this?

How much we talkin' bout, roughly?

Or is this a dealer repair??

Help a brutha out, willya??

Dealer, independent, or anyone with SDS access can check for stored fault code(s) to confirm malfunctioning sensor and if this is the case (most likely so) left or right entire unit will need to be replaced. This link will give you an idea of what is involved for DIY replacement http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w211...ml#post3624222

As always, you guys proived great information and insight. From the link you listed, I'm sure I can fix this problem. It's good that the link provided the part numbers for the bracket and harness I'd need.

Now, if I could just find the sending unit for a good price....

Somebody mentioned eBay. But I'll check some of the other online sites as well.

Well, maybe my sending unit was just being onery.

I filled up yesterday and the indicator started reading again...

I'll be sure to pay attention to it to see of it starts mis-reading.
