regular maintenance?

My wife and I are looking at purchasing a 2004 E320 wagon. This will be our first MB.
Could any of you folks give me an idea of what the "typical" yearly maintenance costs might be like?

thanks,
Chris

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Depends on

if you do it yourself, take it to an indie mb shop, or take it to the dealer.
Cost goes up exponentially in that order.
If you bought a well inspected model with no underlying issues expect
to change oil mobil 1 0w40 synthetic and filter every 10k miles or yearly.
Inspect all hoses and belt
check fluids
check brakes and suspension parts etc.
Learn to diy and maybe a few hundred a year tops excluding tires, brakes when worn out,or any unforeseen issues.
I hope you had it inspected.
you can get a maint item check list
if you like I can link you to one

Thanks for your reply. I have been reading through the threads in this forum trying to get a feel for the issues that these cars have. I found and downloaded a .pdf for the 2004-2005 E class from MB's website (found that in another thread).

From what I can tell, the regular maintenance seems to be reasonable aside from any unforeseen issues. Ball joints, control arms, and problems with the air suspension seem to be what I see as things to watch out for.

The wagon we are thinking about purchasing is located out of state, but I would still see about having a dealer inspect it before I pull the trigger.

As a MB owner for just two years I would say that regular maintenance costs at a dealer are NOT reasonable, unless you are used to paying for BMW maintenance or other similar vehicles. The MB dealer charges at least double what I have paid for identical maintenance on American cars. However, I have now taken the path of DIY since my time has little value. I am counting on high reliability now.

I am expecting the upkeep on a MB to be significantly higher than the VW that we have now and am prepared for that. I think. :-)
Some of this stuff I'll do myself, no stranger to that, but it's the things I mentioned above that cause me concern, I suppose.

Can you purchase extended warranties for cars this old (2004)?

thanks,
Chris
