More photos...Exhaust work
For those that are interested in how the mufflers are cut it.
I had mine welded as opposed to using the supplied exhaust clamps.
Muffler shop said it was a snap. $125 for the removal and installation work. I had it all handled through my body shop.

It matches up great. They actually utilize this combo in the European Sport model, the only difference being the rear bumper accomodates mufflers with Single Chrome tips.
I have the 'matching' AMG side skirts on order (about 6 weeks already). Just a subtle difference than the ones on the Sport model. I'll but them on as soon as they arrive.

How do the mufflers sound compared with the OEM mufflers?
Do you have a photo showing the rear quarter including existing side skirts and rear bumper?
How much was painting of rear bumper and installation?

Legacy:
Here's a picture that I have handy that shows a portion of the original side skirt. Again, MB matches up this bumper and these side skirts in Europe, so the lines flow very well. I'm still changing mine, but I'm sure others will think its not necessary.
I'll try to find a link to the Euro car so you get a full view.
As far as the mufflers go, yeah, I can hear the difference. Its not much, however, there is a low rumble that is more noticable in the lower RPM range. At higher speeds and RPMs, the engine compartment dominates the sounds that I hear inside the cabin. I have no idea what it sounds like outside, but I know its not obtrusive.
Again, I was looking for the OEM package and wanted fit, finish, detail, and integration ease. I'm sure some 3rd party gear would be more aggressive. I was looking for something else.
I paid $800 for the entire job which included painting the rear spoiler and bumper, removal of the old bumper and installing the new one, installing the rear spoiler, removal of the existing bumper guards and re-installing them on the new bumper, and the exhaust system work.

Congrats!
Vdimemmo, your car looks great! Hope to get my mufflers next week.
MB Partsman tells me Part Number B6-6-03-6142 cover both LH/RH Mufflers for the E55. Can you confirm this please. TIA.
Also, did you notice any change in acceleration and low end torque. I changed the exhaust system (back of catalytic converter to exhaust tip) on my C320 to the C32 and noticed a slight loss of torque and initial acceleration because of the bigger diameter pipes.
Hope we don't experience the same here.

Thanks for the information & photos
Vidimemmo:
Thanks for all the information & photos of your installation. The result looks great. I had seen the Euro version with the existing US sport side skirts. Now I will have to decide how I will proceed.
I like your thinking regarding remaining with OEM components, lines, etc. The more extreme design alternatives do not appeeal to my taste, but to each his own.
I will be interested in hearing your impressions of any noticeable difference in performance - good or bad - with these new mufflers in place.
Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Confirmed. That is the same number on my invoice for both mufflers. That should come in a single box with 2 mufflers, 2 exhaust clamps, 2 rubber hangers, and some documentation.
For clarity, I don't think this is specifically for the E55 as the documentation actually says its for the E50 (W211/E500). I think the difference here is that these mufflers come with an exhaust pipe reducer installed to properly match the E55 mufflers to the E500's slightly smaller exhuast system.
I would guess that if someone where actually looking for replacement mufflers for a real E55, there would be a different part number and the units would not have the reducer already welded on.
I hope that makes sense to you. Its actually very nice that they come with the reducer already welded on. The exhaust shop said it made the job very easy for them.

To answer your question quickly, yes its AMG. Check out the previous posts. All the details are there regarding price, sound, etc..
I have no idea if its better than Brabus as the car is brand new and these are my first mod's. I chose AMG because I wanted to stay with OEM.

I installed the Brabus sport exhaust system on my E500 a few months ago. I removed it last month in anticipation of exchanging my car for the replacement car in August. (I will be away much of the time between now and then and wanted to do it while I had the time.) I have not decided whether to use the Brabus exhaust system with the AMG rear bumper or sell it and use the AMG mufflers. I am leaning toward the AMG mufflers for the reasons stated by vidimemmo.

Yes, I purchased direct from Brabus in February. I paid $1,980. It is for E500. I tossed the reducing sleeves for use with E320 exhaust, but all the parts are here for E500.
Make me an offer.

996tt, E55, X3 and a few others not worthy of mentioning here...
notwithstanding the fact the all your cars look good in their various stages of being kitted out, i'm just wondering why none of you opted to go for the real deal '55?

Too long a wait
Initially wanted to order an E55, but when the dealer told me that delivery would be no earlier than May 2004 because of the waiting list, I decided to get the E500 Sports instead. Couldn't wait that long.
Unfortunately most E55 owners in North America will never be able to experience the full potential of those cars. I owned a 2002 SLK32 AMG and never had too many chances to floor it. A couple of runs to 230KPH is all I managed to do.

I wasn't looking for that much car; both in terms of price and performance.
Similar to my previous BMW vehicles, I've always honed in on Sport-Premium packages. Unlike the Euro Avantgarde model which looks great too me, the US Sport package fell short in terms of aggressive styling. I was also really dissappointed to learn that picking up the ground effects and exhaust would be so difficult.
In the end, I did the math and found I could get what I wanted at a reasonable uplift to the E500's price tag.
