Panorama roof shade stop working on open position

Panorama Sunroof works, but sunshade stuck open: help?
Has anyone replaced the motor on their panorama roof? Mine seems to have failed for the 2nd time. The window opens and closes, but the shade is stuck in the open position and makes a ratcheting noise without moving. I'm guessing the gear has stripped out somewhere. Any insights greatly appreciated! Mine is a 2006 W211 (E 320 CDI)
