2yr old, brand new Michelin PS2's?
Is there anything wrong with buying brand new Michelin PS2's that have a 2yr old date of manufacture on them?
I noticed in another tire thread someone mentioned that Tire Rack has tires with 2yr old date codes.
My MB dealer is offering me 4 PS2's for $1250+tax out the door but the date code is from sometime in 2009.

I've read that dealers in Europe don't sell tires older than 5 or 6 yrs old. But, as far as I know, there's no age limit in the U.S. as long as the tires are not defective. Sometimes I see 10-yr old tires onsale in tirerack.com. Look at those classic cars, those tires are as old as grandpa. As long as they're not dried out or got cracks, and stored at the right temperature and humidity, they're good as new.

Do you have any road hazard buying tires from the dealer? I like to buy tires where I can purchase the road hazard and free replacement. I try to buy from JustTires since they are Goodyear and can be serviced at any goodyear for no cost.
Tirerack, is $1136+136 for road hazard.. plus $20/tire for mounting and balancing locally.. and you aren't that much cheaper than the dealer.. so no I'd not buy from the dealership. My personally, I'd price match or shop around locally, see who has it in stock when you need them and see who can give you a good road hazard.

well at $1250+tax, so around $1360 out the door, its a GREAT deal for SoCal.
TireRack charges shipping as well and apparently in another thread someone called them and their PS2's are 2 yrs old too.
Also, this is from a MB dealer which means it automatically comes with 24 month Road Hazard Protection, which works for me because I go through tires every 1.5yrs.
See, http://www.mbofhenderson.com/parts/t...-henderson.htm
So yeah, I normally don't go to stealerships for everything, in this case, no one locally can match the price.

Why would you buy ANYthing at the dealer? they don't call them "stealerships" for nothing? Dealers should only be used for warranty work.

Bottom line is do what works for you, dealership or TR or local sale. I've spent extra bucks just for convenience. Sometimes it's not all about saving a dollar, but also about your own time and effort.
btw, you'll like the PS2s, they work nice with the E Class chassis. The crisper turn-in will be noticed with some sharper steering response.

already running the PS2's .. this will be my second set .. LOVE the tires. I noticed on Michelin's site there is now a PS3 coming out.
I might try those Hankook EVO V12's next time .. I've heard good things about them and they were rated very well by C&D (http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...12_evo_page_10)
Actually, I'm thinking of trying the Michelin Pilot A/S for better wet traction.

The PS2s are no longer being manufactured (or will be very shortly) so you'll just have to find what you can find.
