Telephone in 2006 E350
I am new to the forum so I apologize if I am posting in the wrong forum. I have a 2006 E350. I would like to use my iphone 4 in this car. I am getting conflicting information if I am able to do this or not. I looked in my console and I do not see the bluetooth adapter piece. How do I know if my car is prewired for telephone or not? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It doesn't sound like you have the prewiring for the telephone, which you will need to install the Bluetooth module. When you slide back the console cover, you will see a connector as shown toward the bottom of this page - http://www.comandonline.co.uk/Merced...out-cable.html - if you have prewiring. If you do not see the connector may be several items you need to purchase to get the phone/bluetooth installed.

Call your MB Service Advisor and they should be able to quote you a price. Without any phone gear in your '06 it will be ridiculously expensive. Maybe go aftermarket or just use the iPhone ear bud.....

'04 and '05 is plug and play. Buy the Bluetooth puck for $300 and connect through the TeleAid system and go. In '06 things changed and if your car is not pre-wired for phone your options are limited. Search around the site and you will see others with similar problems.

You should have the dock in the cnter console. My 06 had the dock for the old Motorola V160. I bought the bluetooth puck and my phone works great. This is what you need: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Merce...fAudioQ5fVideo

If it's an 06 it should have a "cradle" at the back of the console (behind the cupholder) It may have been removed by a PO if so there should still be a small square mounting plate. My COMAND said "telephone not installed" as well.

TMDore, I had the same setup as you with my '06 E350. Check out this link http://cgi.ebay.com/Mercedes-Bluetoo...item25626f2f50 it's on eBay and it's posted by a user named Cellguy85. He sells kits that have evrything you need to install (including instructions with photos:-) Plus he gives assume support via phone or eMail. He helped me navigate through my installation. The above kit includes VCS but the guys flexible so if you don't need that he can send you a cheaper kit (i.e without VCS).

Not to beat a dead horse, but as a sponsor of the forum... that is not the best way to go for so many reasons it would be hard to list... but a short list is:
1. MUCH harder to install..many components in many locations
2. Locked into the MB system and limited phone compatibility
3. Won't support A2DP (bluetooth) music streaming
4. NOt software upgradable as new phones come out
5. Will not support an optional ipod hookup
6. No USB charging of phone if desired
and is only $5 less than a system that is:
1. easier to install
2. works with ALL phones
3. supports bluetooth music streaming
4. software upgradable by the end user
5. can optionally support an iPod too
6. can support usb charging
The iTronic gives you EVERY single feature of the Mercedes phone system plus many many more features.

2006 E55 owner here...
My car does not have the prewiring as I'd hoped, and no docking port in the center console.
I am liking the look of the iTronic solution a LOT!
The YouTube videos showing the install are great, I don't have any concerns about a DIY install on this kit. My question is about the iPod option for iTronic... The video doesn't show the iPod demonstration, is it the same functionality as your "standalone iPod" solution? (I did find a YouTube video for that one).
A few quick questions:
- Is there a way to charge the iPhone while it's in the car (long trips) or do I just buy a separate 12v charger?
- is it possible to navigate on the iPod using the thumbwheel when it is plugged into the iTronic system, or do I have to use the COMAND display for all navigation?
- iTronic charges the iPod while its plugged into iTronic, correct?
- can I plug a second iPod into the extra "aux" port on the iTronic? Is it a line-level input or a headphone type (volume control) port?
ITronic is a sweet looking solution.... And I'm fairly certain it's going to find it's way into my car soon!

With the iPod option it charges as well.
The ipod works thru the CDC menu and changes it to Artists, Albums, Genre, etc.
Yes you can still use the iPod to navigate
Yes you can plug in a second to the aux port (line in) depending on the model you choose.

BTW I almost didn't go with the VCS but I'm glad I did, having voice access to all the Command functions is awsome.

^you should be wired and can use the puck with tail. Search the site and pull open your center console to verify if you think it may not be there.
