Rear turn signal bulb

does anyone know the rear turn signal bulb type for a 2009 E class?

Sylvania does not say.

I believe according to the manual you have to replace the entire light assembly. At least thats the way it is with my 2006.

Yeah, it's not the lens but rather the "board" to which bulbs are soldered.

Yep, you don't need to replace the plastic lens, but the bulbs are soldered on to a little board and they are ALL TOGETHER. I have LED brake lights, but the other lights are all on one panel. I think that one panel is about $50.00

They are supposed to last a long time, I'm surprised that yours burnt out! You should have the other bulb still operating, right? The W211 has two blinker bulbs in the back.

Ok just to cofirm here, so turn signal bulb in the back are not replacement bulbs, but instead it a whole board that needs to be replace. I was thinking of swappin out some led bulbs for the turn signal.

The only way you could do that (which would be a nice idea) would be to solder in an LED cluster and make sure that it has the same resistance as the two bulbs. Easier said than done. You will have a lot of errors if you don’t do it correctly. I think that before long, there might be an aftermarket company who will sell a little replacement panel that will pit in the place of the current “long life” bulbs and have it work without fault. It might be pricy though.

I just replaced a welded-in PH16W tail stop bulb with a 921 / W16W bulb. It would have been a super-simple project if the stock bulb was soldered in and not tack/spot welded. I ended-up twisting the old bulb (don't pull at all) until the leads broke loose at the bulb. You can then pull out the black base, which leaves about 1/4" of wire still attached to the circuit board tabs. I used a Dremel + cut-off wheel to remove the existing lead wires. Drill a 1/16" hole in the circuit board tabs, straighted the lead wires on the 921 and just solder it in place. I did use a little hot glue to make a new bulb-base so the lead wires were not the only thing supporting the bulb.

I just tested it out in the dark and it's impossible to tell it's not a stock bulb.

$3 project.

2006 E500 4matic wagon
LED assemblies are a great solution. There are at least 2 options that I am aware of for the wagon. Dectane lighting and eBay.
