It it poserish or ok?
I have an 08 E550 w/ the AMG sport package...
I of course love AMG (who doesn't?) and love the fact that my car has the package. Does this make it ok for me to get an AMG frame for my license plate and an AMG tag for the front? (to replace a stupid dealership one) -- without being poserish?
Definitely not trying to front the car for something it's not. Does this put off the message that I am?

I wouldn't. You already have the other 'looks' from AMG, but without the engine... NO GO. I use the chrome one from Mercedes, it looks fantastic on my black car. The thin frame.

AMG plate frame? Don't see anything wrong with that. That's like putting NISMO or ///M plate frame on a non-NISMO/ ///M car... They may have some of the respective mods geared towards the performance divisions, so they want to rep a little? That's not posing in my book. The badge itself on the other hand is a different story.

98% of fellow motorists won’t know the difference. Or care. Just don’t tell your friends at MBWorld.
I installed a nondescript $2.99 black license frame on my AMG. To each his own.

Definitely poseur-ish. Save your car some face, and be proud of it. Putting AMG stuff on it will devalue and de-credit it to any enthusiast and anyone who knows what "AMG" is. You have a great car, just as great as an AMG, but a different animal. Don't make it look like you're a poor-man's something else or ashamed of what you have due to what you wish you did!

1991 F-150, 1976 912E, 2006 E500 Wagon
My farmboy low beginnings caused me to ask
a license plate frame source if they could make one for my wife's E500 wagon which would say "My other car is a '91 Ford F-150" but it would have been too expensive.
addendum: note that this post was intended to say that I contemplated doing a little reverse snobbery by putting a plate frame on my wife's M-B which made it clear that I was just as proud of my 20 year old F-150 Supercab.

A license plate frame? Give me a break, that is not the same as slapping AMG or Kompressor badges on the car, now that's posing.
My CLS has AMG exhausts, wheels, etc (AKA Sport kit)...I would add a plate frame (AMG, Mercedes, whatever) without a second thought.

hers E350 / his E55
Each their own opinion I guess, I personally take all badges off my cars. I have removed the E350 and the E55, AMG from our cars. Simply for the one reason I don't want people to know, I rather want them to speculate once they have been left behind in a cloud of fresh air.

I own my vehicles but still believe your agument has no merit. Leasing is no different from financing a car other than the ownership and ease of exit. It is a VERY smart financial tool when the numbers make sense.
Back OT- Putting an AMG badge on a car that is not is no better than putting a E63 badge on an E350 etc.
Some have said that who cares, but the OP asked the question so he got answers. It's no different than owning a fake Rolex or than putting a Mercedes emblem on a Honda....

You can't see the badges or the plate when you're driving, only other people can see it. Its the ONLY reason why people use bumper stickers, decals, or lettered plates, etc.. It's to advertise to others. The same thing with certain clothing, jewelry, etc.. It gives one "pleasure" because they know others are seeing it, too.

To the OP, if you're a fan of the AMG division of Daimler but don't own one of their products, that's okay. But you don't really need to tell the rest of the world. Enjoy your E550 with the AMG sport package (it's just like a BMW 550i with the M sport package); it's a great car.

p.s., since you seem to be an AMG fan, AMG publishes the annual AMG: The Performance Magazine and you can get your own copy or read it online or download it: http://www.mercedes-amg.com/webspecial/magazine/2010e/
Also a great book is "AMG: Reaching for the Stars."

I believe it is wrong to live your life by what other people think. Do what makes you happy. As a concours judge for another brand I am asked alot about repainting a car the original color or can they change. My response has always been design for your pleasure not the future owner's unless you have an investment grade collectible. So do as you please and do not worry about what other people say or think.![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

That is one perspective but certainly not the only one. Another might be an admiration of the mark. Is it wrong to put AMG brakes on a non AMG car even though the AMG shows through the spokes and itself is the Brand's badge, or how about an AMG airbag in a non AMG car or an AMG interior or for that matter any AMG labeled part or AMG branded design such as the side skirts or bumpers that AMG provides. What about the replica car industry that is so robust? As you had mentioned the people that are knowledgeable about a particular brand know the difference upon close inspection. The only ones who seem perturbed are those that own the original AMG branded vehicle which is a very small segment of the MB market of which most would not think of debadging their AMG cars because the badge is all important to them based on the perceptions other people may have of them and their perceived status by associated ownership. That is the end game of Long Term Branding versus Direct Marketing. Cars like the original Cobras and Shelbys have risen dramatically in large part due to the replica and tribute car industry. It has in no way adversly affected the value of the original unless someone has purposely tried to pass off a replica as the real article in the selling market. If anything it has served to heighten the awareness of the brand and make more valuable what you perceive to gain by direct ownership. What someone chooses to put on their car regarding AMG badging should be viewed as complimentary. You know you own the real thing. Is that not enough?
