Glitter?

I have noticed a very light dusting of glitter on my seats and dash. It's kind of goldish. I am wondering if it is coming through the vents and if it is just something that is happening during break in. I only have 600 miles on the car.

Any ideas?

Glitter??

I've never seen it in my "E" and I now have 3000 mi's.

I wouldn't think it's dust/pollen given you have a air filter. Check to make sure you do have an air filter.

But even if it was dust/pollen, it would be dull looking, not glitter like.

For my car, I wipe the inside out each week after washing the car. I just use the damp microfiber towel I dryed off the car with. I've also treated my seats (leateher) and dash (vinyl) with leather treatment twice. Once when I first got it, and again last week.

I'll be watching this thread to see if you find an outcome.

Good Luck mark

It's a shiny glitter.

What did you use to treat your seats and vinyl when it was new?

What else.... Zanio Leather treatment. Works on Leather and Vinyl. I also apply it to the door/trunk/hood seals.

I have the full leather interior std on the E500 spt ( Charcoal) I bought some Leatherique conditioner as suggested in the detailing forum, but my question is two-fold:

When should I apply the first coat? Now? And Second- do I put it on all the leather including the dash and door panels?

Thanks!

I have the leatherique also. There are two kinds. The oily reconditioner that you leave on a long time and then wipe off and the regular cleaner. I wonder which you should use on a new car?

Survey of One: I've used Leatherique on 2 prior MB's, waited about a year to do the Rejuvinator Oil, after its first summer, but I used the Pristene Clean after about 6 months when there was a slight look of some dirt or clothing dyes from sliding in and out on the Java seats. The Pristene clean is very quick to apply, while the Rejuvinator needs some time to work, and a hot day, and I don't really think the leather has lost much of it's original oils until it's had exposure to a lot of heating from the sun. Neither product makes the surfaces shiny, just a nice sheen and leather aroma. It is supposedly using the oil to penetrate the leather and lift out penetrated dirt and contaminants. The Clean is a mild surface cleaner with some conditioner (it is also used after you have cured the leather with the rejuvinator oil). Both are very easy to apply.

My W211 is just 6 months old, and I don't see any need to do anything as yet on the ash leather. It is only outside a few hours per day normally, but our summers are hot and I'll likely do it this fall when it's still hot enough to make the rejuvinator oil work well. I would be reluctant to use rejuvinator on the dash unless Leatherique specifically recommends it. I have not found that they do. I doubt the dash is leather, and you've got the airbag under there. The door panels could be done when you do the seats. There's no longer any airbags there like there were on the older models. The Leatherique site will give you a lot of tips:

Pristine Clean: "Use as maintenance and detail cleaner each time you clean your car to preserve and protect your leather, vinyl and soft rubber."

Rejuvinator Oil: "Its’ unique capillary action forces proteins into the leather and dirt out! Leather will be glove-soft, luxuriously supple, and strong! Prevents cracking, drying, and tearing."

Glitter in the car? Sounds like you've been driving teenaged girls around!

Well, I have had my 15 year old in the car with 2 of her friends and took them to a cast party for their theatre group. But I thought I had cleaned the interior since then. Maybe not. I guess I'm just super sensitive about getting any and all bugs worked out early on.

Not that I'm really into my new car or anything like that!
