wipers wiping too much?? and/or noisy??
i have noisy wipers and sometimes they just keep wiping even if the window is dry. the dealer has replaced the blades and no word on why they keeping wiping for no reason on auto. so i wanted to see them in action...
so i put the car in drive with full brake engaged and turn the wipers on auto. sprayed water on the water sensor. noticed my right top blade was not getting all of the water off like the middle or bottom. this is the part of the right blade that wipes over the water sensor. i bent that part of the blade alittle and now the blade wipes all the water off. the next rain will tell me they work better.
is there any fix for the wiper squeaks?

I have had very noisey wipers from the start (took delivery October 02)
The dealership replaced them (the whole unti) and they were fine for about 12 weeks. Now they are unbearable again - in rain they judder up the screen, and return back quietly. Cleaned the screen and blades but to no effect.
Another new set ordered and being fitted soon.

I don't know if this is any sort of fix but I used Zaino Window polish on all exterior windows. It almost feels like a fine gritty wax. Since I have a pano, I just made a morning of it and of course included the windscreen.
Bottom line is that my wipers sound/ wipe smoth as silk. Quiet and errorlessly.
Could the Zaino have helped? Irealize the sensor issue may be different altogether, but I have a hunch thw wiper noise is helped.

This really is amazing, having to wax our windshields to stop noisy wipers on $50,000.00+ cars!! this is
I got a 2003 c240 as a loaner this week while my 03 CLK 500 was in for service (my wipers were changed too and thet are still loud) the wipers on the c240 were very quiet and smooth and it rained for three days, lite and heavy and they worked great in all conditions. MBZ should have never changed the wiper design from the w210's and w208 until the new one was perfected. My service adv said the S class also suffers from this problem!

i wonder if the old proven plastic blade design could replace the rubber arms we have now.
also, do you think more or less tention on the arms would correct the problem?

I've never had any problems with my wipers at all. The auto setting has left me puzzled a few times (seems either too slow in light rain or just to be on constantly when its stopped raining) but the wippers themselves are fine.

I had noisy wipers when my car was delivered in Nov. 2003 and the dealer said there wasn't much they could do about it; however, he did indicate they could put a solvent on them that might help. Since, we don't get much rain here in Southern California, I said they could take care of it at my next service.
I then put some Prestone Windshield Wiper Restorer on the blades that I've used in the past on other car's wipers. You put it on with an applicator that is included and let it dry for a day or more. It's important to let it dry BEFORE you move the wipers.
I put it on and forgot about it until it rained about a month later and I had to use the wipers. PRESTO, they were silent and worked fine. I've used them several times since then with no problems. Recommend you give it a try.
I believe the problem is that the new rubber blades are stiffer than those used in the past and tend to make noise at the end of each stroke unless the surface is smooth. You can, therefore, approach the problem from two ways. Smooth out the windshield which is time consuming or lubricate wiper blades with a product such as Presone Windshield Wiper Restorer.
I'd be interested in hearing if others have used this or other products with success. Since I'll be getting a new 2003 in July with the Nav system, I will be checking to see that this and about 12 other minor problems I've had with my current E-500 have been corrected before taking delivery of the new car. Overall, however, I'm VERY satisfied with my car

If the new E-Classes have the same wipers as the S-Class, they're about $125 a blade!

Wipers on my 2004 E-class are fine, much quieter and better than the ones on my 2003 SL. I like the double blade design, a vast improvement over the single blade in the W210.

I had my blades replaced by the dealership 4 times. Eventually I insisted they change the WHOLE wiper arms, as in my opinion the spring was too harsh, forcing the blade onto the screen. Thankfully new wiper arms cured it - they took them off a new car from the showroom............i would have eventually sold the car if it could not have been cured as it was driving me crazy - now - months later - they are still quiet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the wiper arm different than that of the '03s? I thought this would have corrected the matter. Yet I see '04 owners complaining. At any rate, '03 owners when complaining why not ask the MBUSA rep to change the entire arm to the new '04 design rather than just the blades. I had my wipers replaced several months back for noise & skipping and they've been fine to date. But if it happens again I'll be cutting to the chase replacing to the '04 design even though it's going to be an uphill battle because I'm over the 12 month window. Nevertheless, it's a repeat problem and I'll make certain that the MBUSA rep understands this.

Many tks for your advice.

Yes. Don't beleive any of this rubbish about waxing your screen etc etc. You shouldn't have to. I was prepared to sell my car it got that bad - and unless its that bad others can't appreciate how frustrating it is. Get the whole arm changed for each wiper and see the difference. I had 4 sets of blades and they were only good for maybe 2 days..............change the arms and see - test it.

I had a similar problem on my old car (non MB). I was advised to use toothpaste to clean the grease and other deposits off of the screen. I thought it was a crazy suggestion and ignored it for months. However, in complete frustration, I eventually tried it. It worked a treat.

mb charged me around 100 bucks to replace the new blades which fixed the problem. (they told me this is wearable items, cannot be done for free.) but the new ones are quiet so far and I will watch them for the next 6 months, if it happens, I will go back and ask new ones for free. (the blades are wearable but they have 6 month warranty -- if mb's blades cannot last more than 6 months then mb has a BIG quality issue. even all 180 days are rainy days, this should not happen. at least this should not happen in a 60k+ car -- it is a shame and it is a shame to ask owner to pay for it -- according to the last year weather, I don't think there are more than 60 rainy days in New Jersey and mb's blades cannot be used more than 60 times, can them? to clean up wax on the glass to avoid noise is another big joke for 60k+ car.
I am NOT happy for mb low quality wiper/blade.
this obviously is a recall item but mb does not want to do it for free. shame on mb. (can someone confirm that this only happens in the cars in usa?)
