W211 fender replacement - how?

Some kind individual hit and ran my 2008 e320 bluetec front fender - just bought a new one off of parts.com. I'd like to remove and replace to save some $ on the repair. Also changing out front bumper, skirts and rear bumper with E63 parts. Before I dig in - anyone have instructions or words of wisdom?

If you dont have have the service DVD, for the 110.00 I would purchase it. Beware, you have to do some tweaking to make it work with Windows 7, it runs best on XP

There are fasteners (fender bolts) along the top of the inner fender (obvious), another one at the rear vertical edge (not so obvious), between the fender & bumper cover, and under the rocker panel cover (also not so obvious). You will need to remove the ft wheel, the splash shield, and the rocker panel cover to access everything. To remove the rocker cover, pop out the plastic fasteners underneath, pull the scuff plates on top to get to the upper fasteners, then use a wide & thin puddy knife between the bottom of the fender & upper edge of the rocker cover, to unlock the plastic retainers. Suggest you obtain some spare plastic fasteners as you will probably break a couple in the process. Have fun, . . . .it's a learning process & those German engineers are tricky when it comes to assembling their vehicles!!

Does the bumper need to come off to remove the fender?

no it doesn't.. there is a metal shim that has a bolt in it in the well, when you pull that off the whole shim pushes towards the front of the car (note that this piece is not permanently attached to the bumper or fender so don't lose it!) and thats what releases the fender from the bumper, you will have to take the wheel off or have tiny hands

how do i know? ...experience

You may not have to remove the entire bumper cover, but rather unbolt just the side you are working with. You will need to remove some of the fasteners on the other side near the mid section (proximity of license plate) to be able to swing the cover away a bit.

The advantage of doing this is you can do it without help of another and you have no risk of dropping the cover and scratching it.

You will want tape around the bumper and new fender at and near the seam where they joint to prevent scratching. Same goes for headlight area if that is removed and reinstalled.

There are some DIY's out there for w211 bumper removal.

Can you help me with getting the fender and the bumper disconnected!?? I got the first part but the second connection closest to the light is extremely hard, it's not even a bold, or Allen or torque head? Am i supposed to just push it through? I'm about to just snap it off loll...
