2004 e500 rear a/c blow hot air
I just noticed that the rear vents are blowing hot air while the front vents are blowing cold. Anyone else experience this issue?
I only have 55300mi on the car.

So with that said, have you pressed the "rear vents" button and attempted to lower the temperature?

I found the thread already. Heater control valve changeover issue.
Seems like alot of ppl have/had this issue.
And I just got done laying down 1500 for air shock and other stealer work.

My e500 is a garage queen and I'm starting to feel like I need to just drive it daily to work out all the kinks. Collecting cobwebs can't be good for the car.

The part is $40 at autohaus
Even cheaper at parts.com but they charge S/H
The dealer quotes around $200-250 labor
An easy DIY in my opinion. Or do it at an Indy. Labor shouldn't be over 120-150 for an hour job

I actually had that problem. Was not getting any heat up front, but was able to get heat in the rear. Was having a tech check out my car and he mentioned that it's typical that the heater valve can sometime get stuck; he indicated mine is working fine now, but suggested I get it replaced through my 3rd party warranty.

MB dealer replaced the valve on my wagon last year, it came to about $400.00.
The Total-Care warranty covered it. Same with the Air matic struts in the front, replaced @ the same visit. The whole whole bill came to about $4K.
Don't leave home without the Warranty on the old W211s

Good thing you had a warranty.
Now I don't have to sweat the next mechanical problem, or go chasing down the cheapest indy shop in the area: Just drop of the E at the dealer, get a loaner car and tell 'em to call me when it is fixed.
Will renew my contract and keep the car another 3 years after the present contract expires.

I have had this same issue of blowing hot air at the rear vents for a year now and after changing the valve my MB dealer has traced the problem to a faulty S.A.M. I can trick the SAM into blowing cool air by raising the temperature and then lowering it back down. It is only a problem on the hottest days and I guess I'd rather let my rear occupants suffer than pay $1,000 for a new SAM.

Talked to my tech, and he indicated he could change out the heater valve for me for $215. Considering he basically did a full pre-buy inspection to identify any problems for nothing, and my 3rd party warranty doesn't appear to cover the heater valve, and I've got limited spare time to perform the DIY, I think it's worth paying to have it done. Hopefully, that will take care of it and not require replacement of the SAM.

I see, yea...looks like I'm just going to take it in. Too hot to work on the car myself. What did the repair cost you? Or did you do it yourself?

Well, I'd originally thought it had something to do with all the work this dealer did on the car just last month. Front driver's side airshock change, tranny fluid flush, brake fluid flush. I thought they'd sabotaged something, lol. Dealer nightmares.
Oh, and the mechanic's cd in the single cd slot was a nice touch. I was like, "that's not my cd!". I guess a pre/post repair test drive requires nice music. He didn't like any of mine apparently. I can't remember what cd (belonging to me) is gone now. I did have one in there.
It's either I get it fixed or the E500 will just be a post 8pm drive car.

Hey PCH, It cost me $210. I ordered the part at MBPartsOnline.com including shipping was $38 then went to an indy to install it (limited time for me too). Give them your vin number and they will match the part with your car.

1. Reset actuator motor
2. Replaced in rear remove and replaced.

This time the dealer under warranty replaced heater switch over/valve including coolant.
